Someone has put out old furniture and other stuff at my street. I yanked about 16 0.5m long metal tubes. I don't know what I'm going to use them for but I'm cursed with being able to craft something. Probably something for propping up beans or gherkins. It's freeing to make something out of trash.

I've watched "Cosmic Princess Kaguya!" on Netflix. It has some nice vibes but the plot is brain dead. It tries to be clever but doing so it is hand-waving so many things that put too many questions into my head that everything falls apart.

@nerthos It was an opportunistic watch without much thought behind it. It was more of an act of curiosity than anything else and yet I was disappointed. Are the Japanese so oblivious and do not care about the quality of the plot? I get it that that was a more fairy tale like one but it failed to be one in my opinion.

@adiwan I think it's the ever-present 80-20 rule, and this one might fall on the 80. Lots of slop produced every year since ever and it's kinda hard to sort out while things are still airing and there isn't a full picture.

@zeldatra Plenty of Venezuelan refugee students at my workplace, all were insanely happy about the intervention, so were their parents. Refugee associations called for a celebration in the capital at 18 and at 14 it was already full, they were still there past midnight. Ex student I kept in contact with (in college now) I messaged right when the extraction was announced (it was early morning here) and she had to take a break to cry. I have yet to see one who isn't happy about it.
Machado is an F tier candidate for actually being in charge of the country and will absolutely sell all resources, however in the words of a Venezuelan refugee that was asked about the oil on the sidewalk here, "we don't have food why would we care about oil?"
I think Zion Don's current administration isn't great but this is probably the first genuinely good military act the USA has carried out since ordering the navy to clear out the pirates in the seas of Tripoli. -
@nerthos in the grander scheme of things after doing some research I’ve come around on this particular event but I have an admittedly self-interested dislike of any US military intervention anywhere for any reason regardless of the outcome

Pathfinder in general is number crunching hell since its first edition, but WotR takes it a step further crowning itself as the most number-crappy TTRPG I've played so far.
Which is impressive considering the same company made Rogue Trader, which is perfectly good and pleasant to play. -
@nerthos It was the fight. My party had a Ranger with the teleport moth swarm (my character), a cleric (Shadowheart), a wizard (Gale), and a barbarian (Karlach). My damage output was too low and all of them failed their saving throws more times than statistically possible.

At the same time hippies were taking 14 year olds to concerts and giving them drugs to sleep with them, Michel Focault (of marginality theory fame) was leading a political movement to remove age of consent laws in France, and universities worldwide taught that you should do LSD and pedophilia was actually a very good thing for the kid's development.
It was a plainly insane era, objectively the most predatory and abusive of the XX century except for maybe Weimar Germany. -
@adiwan Yeah it was nice. They excommunicated like 900 priests between 2004 and 2014 when serious investigations took place.
Obviously there will always be incidents like with any crime (there are over 400k active priests plus a whole lot more clergy staff, nuns, monks etc) but the cover up policy is over. Now they try to do an internal investigation first and if they find anything, excommunicate and report to secular law, unless it's within the vatican, which as a sovereign state has the authority to trial.

Digging out tree stumps is hard. Stupid roots. I had to buy a new saw with large teeth to make it rip better through the very wet wood of the roots. The previous owner had cut off three trees and let the stumps behind some bushes and I created some of my own. I really want a greenhouse there some day and these idiots needed to go.

@adiwan You can use a drill to make holes in a stump and pour acid in to rot the wood quickly and make it easy to dig out, but obviously this makes the wood unusable.

I've operated an electric chainsaw today for the first time. It went easier than thought. I wanted to use it weeks earlier but the fuse in the electrical box always triggered because the starting current of the motor was too high. I bought a current limiter for this case and now it triggers only half of the time instead of always. The current limiter is just on the limit of the fuse's limit at 16A. At least I can use the chainsaw. Also I have a miter saw that also is kinda trigger-happy, so the bought current limiter is useful for more than the chainsaw.

@nerthos I am not that bothered with a cable. I throw it over the shoulder and it mostly works out. I rather prefer power tools with cables. I am annoyed by batteries not performing as long as I want and by the need to charge them at the most inconvenient times. The only tool I accept being battery-powered is a drill and even that sucks. I have two batteries and at times I was using one while charging the other and constantly swapping them back and forth.

A furniture modification/restoration channel that is sponsored by a LED beauty face mask? Questionable meets desperation.

@scribus Me too. I shave once a month and wait until it gets itchy. I only have a simple safety razor and an electric shaver. It is sufficient but I like neither of those because my skin is easily irritable. I'd like to permanently remove my beard with lasers but I fear it'll destroy my skin.

7 hours into my 32th birthday I've already caused all sorts of romantic chaos, had my crush hint very overtly that she would like me to fight with her boyfriend over her (won't, she made her choice) and had a drunk gay friend confess to me in an absolutely obsessive, self-destructive and pathological way (which would have been really hot if it was a girl)
It's turning out to be a VERY eventful day and I'm very happy for it.

I've been pretty well all around. 2017 was kind of a mess but other than that, there have been a lot more upsides than downsides. Some losses sure, but death is unavoidable, all that is within my control ticks under my rythm and that's all that matters to say life is good.
Made a lot of friends, got new certifications and a different job, dropped my ex and had a lot of fun these last 8 years. All I can possibly complain of right now is that the stock market is not as good as I'd wish lol.Emily likes this. -

My tomato plants are growing faster than anticipated. Barely one week in the dirt and half of the planted seeds pushed through the surface. Last year it felt it took longer until there was some development.

@adiwan Have you built a roof or pseudo-greenhouse for them? usually just a transparent nylon cover to prevent rain damage is enough to keep them safe

@nerthos Not yet. I have to acquire free trampolines with side-netting for the sole purpose to get the metal tubes to build such a cover. I could buy it ready but due to my bucket solution of a raised bed I'd need 30-40 cm more than purchasable.
