  3. Hey guys, I just started animating my next cartoon today and it opens with this Star Wars opening crawl-type deal but I feel like it might bore viewers before the cartoon even starts. Should I omit it y/n? http://rainbowdash.net/url/835955

    • I have 41 seconds worth of finished animation for my 3rd year film. Only 2 minutes 20 to go! (Kill me) http://pny.lv/09lre (No sound, not edited, just the frames).

    • Spent the day re-animating my film due to Tutors hating my brush choice, so I spent some time doodling a fantasy box-art for a game that doesn't exist. Maybe I'll make it someday. Didn't have time to finish this so that's why some of it is blue and sketchy. http://pny.lv/090ng

      • @mrmattimation It has it's good and bad points. Good points are that it has all of Photoshop's usual features available, bad points is that it's a bit clunky. It can do onion-skinning and such, it's all very basic. Working with good brushes is what makes it for me though. Takes a bit of getting used to

      • @mrmattimation Reading back what I posted... yeah I sounded like a dick, sorry.
But still it's the only thing that can prevent that from helping again.
and it has more advantages, loading up an older version can help you see "when x-feature started kiwiing up"
again, wasn't trying to be an ass, sorry :(

      • @scoot oh, right, you have layers and stuff, my bad, been working too long on a single program I kinda forgot elsewhere things don't suck so bad
I'm forced by my school's stupid program to work with Microsoft Visual studio, it's HORRID, you try to do something in C, it works, you load it again 3 hours later and it goes through a magical equation that involves the current phase of the moon, the time of day and how many Kingdom Hearts Speedrunners are on Twitch at the time, and sometimes (most of the time) even so it refuses to load the damn code properly.
I lost a trimester's worth of work last year kuz for some reason the damned thing decided to change the class load order and prevent me from undoing it.
And to make matters worse the compression is HORRID, the same code compiled in gcc (linux) is about 3mb (code + app) while on MVS it's above 700mb

    • I will echo that if my actual film file had corrupted and I was told "That's what you get for not keeping backups!" I'd have been livid. Do not do this.

      • Alright, I'm 100% guilty of taking design cues from the things around me. Everyone is. But it's not WRONG to criticize art. It never is.

        • @mrmattimation Same, it's getting a little annoying and I've not seen anybody with a valid argument in favour of CalArts yet.

        • @scoot I saw one that was like "um do you know CHARACTER design???????? if u can tell the silhouette it doesn't MATTER what the actual style is" and another that was like "all art looking the same is good they did it in the renaissance all the time". What really bugs me is that people are treating it like it's a cardinal SIN to criticize the fact that a lot of cartoon characters today have relatively the same facial structure and big, toothy grin.

Saturday, 27-Feb-16 01:17:17 UTC in context
        • @mrmattimation I saw that first one, which falls apart because the argument is that they have the same face, not the same silhouette. Their designs are great, but they would look better if they had unique smiles. Design trends will always be a thing, but it's not exactly always good and it should be critiqued like all art.

      • hey guys i decided to get with the times and finally redesign my characters what do u think (i learned how to draw this at calArts) http://rainbowdash.net/url/833771

      • Seeing a lot of CalArts posts on my Tumblr dash and I'm on the fence on the matter. On the one hand I really like those cartoons and they are obviously visually distinct from each-other, on the other hand I can't excuse the toothy-grinned expression that they all have.
