I know it's gotten mixed reception, but I've actually come to really enjoy The King of Limbs over the years since it came out, especially its latter half.
-
@tiffany There's rumours of a new Radiohead record sometime soon, which tickles me in the best way
-
@zennx Have you heard of not being a dick to someone who has just lost days worth of work
-
Nothing left for me to do but dance

@tiffany Zodiac Killer-kun

@awl I'm glad I now own the series on Blu-Ray, it's a really rich show worth watching through more than once. I'm sure I'll revisit it again in the future too.
-
@awl I should really rewatch Kino's Journey sometime soon, it's been a while since I last watched through it all and I need to remedy that. I think I might also like it a bit more than Serial Experiments Lain, but it'd be interesting to see how it holds up as my opinions on Lain are pretty fresh having recently rewatched it.
-
@awl Fun fact (since you're currently watching Kino's Journey): The series director for Serial Experiments Lain, Ryūtarō Nakamura, was also the series director for Kino's Journey. The two shows are very different, but there are hints of his style throughout (cutting to shots of the sky, framing characters while lying down, etc.)

@awl Guess we'll have to RUN YOU OUTTA TOWN
-
@awl Great new avatar
-
@awl Listening now, Maycan has made a lot of progress from when I remember last chatting with you about it.
-
@awl Yeah, the reconstructionist perspective places a much greater emphasis on the distinct structure of the language, whereas Schleicher's interpretation focuses on how disparate vocabulary would construct narrative. Both require a specific context exhibited by language that is missing from PIE outright, so meditations on it are meditations on the nature of language itself. It's interesting to really ponder.
-
@awl The fact that it's conjecture in and of itself is fascinating too, because it demonstrates how a language will be explicitly attached to the culture it inhabits.
-
@zennx many years ago, yes
-
@awl Interesting reading the translations of the old parables while listening the reconstructed versions of them, you can make out things like specific trills and intonation quirks that can be seen in modern Indo-European languages.
-
@awl I have not, though I think I'll give this a read now
-
Well, the statement was actually rhetorical and there was no specific word I was thinking of, but Will understands the sentiment

@awl Shhhhhh
-
@critialcloudkicker When I said "bored" isn't the right word I didn't mean a word that's synonymous or close to synonymous with it is the right word either
-
@metaltao I don't know if "bored" is the right word
-
*logs on RDN* *logs off RDN*
-
@tiffany It's on Netflix so I'll definitely watch through it soon
-
The whole "all is fair in love and war" idiom baffles me because it makes me wonder if the same people who use the phrase also condone forced marriage and genocide.
-
@mrmattimation I'll film it for you since I know how much you love disaster flicks
-
@mrmattimation So what you're saying is they're all disasters?
-
I hear today ladies can ask men to marry them! You know, like every day
-
@tiffany I thought once today that's enough for me thank you
-
@tiffany I thought you had drinks to stay hydrated
