  1. @derps You said what now after you got barbecue, so I suggested that you eat it, and in the event that you live adjacent to me, I would take care of the eating the barbecue which you had picked up on the way home. Context.

  3. If I had a girlfriend who was all 'ooh let's take dirty pictures!', she would regret that really fast, because I would immediately jump to photographer mode, start scoping out the room, considering lighting, framing, any points of juxtaposition, start thinking exposure and f-stop, and I would start going on about it. I would say apples like 'Well you have a darker skin tone so we'll have to be careful with lighting because if there's a lot of highlights on your skin it might look washed out and we don't want that, and the walls of this room are pretty dark so we should go into the other room, the bedsheets in there is white and so are the walls so that will give some nice contrast. And I really think we should wait till morning, then we can use the curtains in that room to cast some soft light, and we'd definitely need a hair light, the one in the living room with the flexible heads would work for that', and it wouldn't be sexy anymore.

  12. @thelastgherkin Damn. That's a bummer. How does the price compare to other toys?

Thursday, 18-Aug-11 20:01:09 UTC from web in context
  13. @leonkfox Overpriced? I dunno man, I've always found the prices to be really low compared to the rest of the toys on the market. Plastic is petroleum based, and I dunno if you've seen what the cost of petroleum is doing lately, but the price is going up, and it's not going to go down, so the fact that the small ones are only $5 is pretty darned cheap when you consider something like a Transformer that's about the same size is between $8 and $12.

  14. @scribus There's no way a DVD or Blu-Ray release doesn't happen, there's a market for that in a big bad way. The marketing people at Hasbro are smart, you don't get a job in a marketing department at a place like Hasbro by being bad at what you do, you get it 'cause you're awesome at what you do. They know that if they release a DVD or Blu-Ray set of Se1, it will sell. They're a business, their goal is to make money. A DVD/Blu-Ray release of Se1 will make money. It'll happen.

  15. @leonkfox I bought it! There's not a lot to it. Just two episodes, that's it. Not even any extras! I wasn't expecting there to be anything extra, but I was hoping. Only bought it to report on it for MyLittlePonyNews.com, wanted to make sure what was on it before I made a post.

  16. @nutterguy Probably, but the show's still a point of revenue. With season two inbound, a DVD/blu-ray release imminent, and the fanbase being the size that it is, it's probably better for them to start making FiM exclusive to The Hub, rather than use the internet as a big ol' test audience. It's already been proven that there's a market for the show, and once that online markets growth slows down, so does the benefit of letting people watch episodes on YouTube with no profits to Hasbro. Once you start reaching that peak fanbase, you gotta keep your best interests in mind, and for Hasbro, that's keeping episodes on The Hub, and not on something like YouTube. The torrents will always be around, and while torrent users and YouTube users do have a lot of crossover, there's also a lot of YouTube users who can't be arsed to use torrents.

Thursday, 18-Aug-11 19:35:43 UTC from web in context
  17. @eaglehooves The fact that the episodes have been up this long is surprising. If you can watch the episodes in HD on YouTube, why would you be arsed to watch The Hub, or inquire to your cable company as to how you can get The Hub? You can't keep your product online in a public venue and let the revenues go someplace else. And the free advertising Hasbro was talking about was the fandom in general. All the PMVs, sites like EQD, and 'MyLittleBrony.com', all the fanart and fics, that's the free advertising they were referring to. There's no way a company like Hasbro could continue to endorse their entire product being on YouTube, where it takes money out of their pockets, and puts it in the pockets of someone else. I'm sure they let it slide for a while, but I'm really surprised it lasted as long as it did.

  21. I do candid street photography, and street portraitures. I will approach strangers, and ask for a picture. I will go to bars, see people sitting at a table who I think look interesting, and if there's an open seat at their table, I'll ask if I can sit down at their table to get a few pictures. I clearly have no trepidation about asking for pictures. However, I'd really like to get a series of pictures at the Muay Thai gym I go to, portraits of people after they've finished a lesson, so they're all sweaty and beat up looking, but I've yet to do it, because I'm being /shy/ about taking my camera out, I'm never shy about taking pictures. It's a weird feeling.

  22. @abigpony It's not even that, but I know a dead end when I see one. I destroyed myself over a chick last year. To begin with I'm not mentally well adjusted and have been diagnosed with a mental disorder, I have it, bad. It makes me insane, I'll never understand how other people deal with things, because clinically speaking, I'm a crazy person. I'm not self diagnosed, four doctors have told me 'Yeah man, you're crazy. Uhm, y-...yeah leave. Like, you should, just, really, you're the kinda crazy who I /really/ don't want around. So y'know, leave. Please. Fast', only not in those words. Still, upstairs, I'm not all together. Despite that, I let this chick lean on me till I was broken, and let her lean on me some more. I had no room for anyone else's burdens, and I let this chick put all her burdens on me. Me, crazy person, then her with this kiwi. It broke me moreso than I ever have been. If I see a road heading anywhere near that path, I get away, fast, 'cause I can not handle it.

  23. !photobronies Damn. Just developed a roll of Ilford 400 that did not want to come out of the can. I had to re-roll into the reel for the developing tank like three times, it kept jamming up, lost a lot of the shots. Though a lot of those shots were street photography shots taken at like 2AM after I had stumbled out of a bar, and started shooting in aperture priority with my camera that has my 400 iso film, and not my 3200 iso film. So yeaaaaaaaaa, the ones that made it are not going to be seen by anyone ever. I might burn them. HOWEVER! The shots of my Totoro with the full moon in the background holy crap even on the negative they look amazing. I'm stoked to get those scanned. I also took some shots of cats at my gym sparring, those look meh, but I'll check 'em out after the film dries, maybe they'll look decent. The Totoro shots however, came out great. I'm really excited about those.

  24. @rotation Man, I've sunk about $2,000 USD into my car this year. The thing's been a huge headache. You can either buy a new car and make payments on it, or pay for a lease, or you can buy an old car and pay to maintain it. Either way, cars cost a lot of money.

  25. @celestiaforequestria Yeah, frames are the expensive part of selling prints. Paper's not cheap, either. 50 sheets of 11x14 will set you back about $120 and a real frame with a mat will be somewhere between $30 and 50. That's for 11x14, if you want to do something like 20x24 the paper's about $10 a piece, and a frame with a mat would have to be custom made. Suggestions? Be careful, haha, 'cause you can spend a lot, fast.

  26. @celestiaforequestria Yeah, there's a name for that, but I don't remember what it's called, that sort of...thing where it...you make a rotatey shot. Help me out here! I like prints, too. I'm looking to invest in an enlarger so I can start making prints of my negatives. And sell some prints. As much as I dislike Hipstamatic, hipsters freakin' love black and white photography. If you were selling them a totally analogue enlarged black and white print, they would eat that up.

  27. @celestiaforequestria There's nothing wrong with digital. Film isn't better than digital, and digital isn't better than film. Film has that film charm, when you shoot and develop it, it takes photography from just clicking a shutter to an event. My cameras are all manual focus (though not all film cameras are manual focus, read about the Canon 1V to get an idea of how nutty autofocus can get), I have to advance the shutter, load the film, take it out. I know my product is tangible, what I shoot is real, it's not just 1s and 0s. I can see it, touch it, feel it. I don't take pictures, I make pictures, I like that, how tangible it is. I like black and white 'cause I like timeless things. Timeless music (orchestral, jazz, solo piano), timeless fashion, and black and white is timeless. Photograph a well dressed man at a piano in black and white and placing the time era becomes difficult. And it sounds like you wanna get into Lomography or Holga photography, google 'em.

  28. @celestiaforequestria The only post I do is futzing with the contrast a bit 'cause negative scanners like to blowout the highlights. And those shots were really really grainy 'cause I push processed them to 6400 iso. I metered at 3200, but I knew they were really really low light shots, so I pushed 'em to 6400. Film's a lot of fun, but expensive. Rolls of film are $10 a pop anymore, and you burn through 36 shots a lot quicker than you think. Or you burn 32 shots and you're like 'son of a bananas I really wanna take four more pictures so I can develop this thing!' I've never tried light painting, but I think that's 'cause I black and white film photography and light painting don't really get along.

  29. @celestiaforequestria Minolta SRT-101, Minolta X-370, and a Minolta X-700. I shoot with Ilford 125, 400 and 3200 and pictars are at http://www.photo.doctormowinckel.com/ The shots of yours that don't have a lot of post processing (which isn't my thing [What? A film guy who doesn't like post processing? Do go on!]) have some really good framing, some good stuff in there, d00d.
