  6. @scribus Since I am pretty sure I watched it on TV on a channel owned by RTL, and it started at 23:00 (11 PM I believe that is), So I am pretty certain that it was not anywhere a new show at that time. But then I would have to assume mostly that RTL are cheapskates (they are) and that 23:00 is nowhere near prime-time for either a premiere or a new-ish TV show.

  7. @mrmattimation @scribus Oh yeah, I should add that’s with nonstop work. I know I personally - and probably many others would - charge much much less if the hypothetical turnaround didn’t need to be “right tf now”, which is what my calculations assumed

I have a friend who's done work for BrentalFloss and he got paid $500 for a three-minute music video, plus 50% of the video's revenue, so if revenue sharing is something you're able to offer up in general the initial lump payment can be much lower.

  9. @scribus I must admit I actually wasn't familiar with RDP so I had to go watch some of it, and I imagine it wouldn't be TOO expensive, relative to what animation usually costs? Like a five minute video in that style could probably be done in a couple of weeks, something like that probably wouldn't even break a grand.

Of course it might be better to get an estimate from somebody who does more freelance work than I do, because I know they charge WILDLY different rates depending on the circumstances, whether or not the project is unionized, etc. etc. I did the calculation assuming an hourly rate of twelve dollars, working eight hours a day five days a week (which is probably enough time to do, again, five minutes of RDP-quality animation in about two weeks, especially if they're reusing assets a lot). Unionized projects pay much, much higher, close to forty bucks an hour, but freelancers tend to be really good at adapting themselves to the budget and can charge much more or much less.

  11. @scribus Not sure what is funnier, your synopsis or the fact that someone went as far as to put that information out there, no doubt it is a troll.

Even the people who would have cared (and undoubtedly would have shouted about how they want an Obi Wan thing instead) have long left the active scene.

Star Wars news is still chucked at me on the daily and it just leaves me lethargic now.

  12. @scribus I'd rather want to watch the other "Asian" character from the Star Wars universe on the big screen: Doctor Aphra. It'd be worth it just for the droids 000 and BT-1.

  16. @scribus Haha. I am in between two minds now.

1: I can make a profile for my sister for Feb 14th

2: I could go halfway on a rant about how this would have 'saved' lots of dogs from inbreeding

  18. @scribus @drinkingpony If you have a very good grasp of Spanish you can read Portuguese just fine, that's how I used to keep up with Mushi's faceplace posts and stuff he linked.

You absolutely won't be able to understand spoken Portuguese though, specially from Brazil.

Do ask mush mush about it if interested, he might have some sites detailing what's going on, and I'm not against roughly translating from Portuguese to English if needed.

  19. @scribus It worked when trying to learn German to a moderate degree.

"Ich saufe darum bin ich" But you need to be carefull lest you get to the "Saufen bis zum Verlust der Muttersprache" stage too quickly.

  22. @drinkingpony @scribus @microsbm Yes, the grooming and the staff complicity with it, with the whole "it's not pedo if it's furry even though loli is bannable!!!" thing.
Which should come as no surprise considering the kind of stuff some of the higher ups at the company are into.

A chat client where grooming takes place is no more guilty than a park where a rape takes place, under normal circumstances, but when the criminals and the staff belong to the same fringe group and look after eachother, the situation starts to change.

  25. @scribus That’s the other thing. For DECADES cultural attitudes in Virginia were behind other states, and like, yeah, we’re pretty good about that sort of thing now, but that picture was published in a MED SCHOOL YEARBOOK. SURELY the bigger statement should be that the state has come a REALLY long way since 1984.

  26. @scribus The whole thing is totally political. There was recently a controversy about the Governor’s stance on late-term abortion, which the state GOP planned to use as ammo in the legislative elections we’re holding this year. But then that didn’t end up going anywhere. If this photo existed for 35 years, why is it only just now being brought up? Why wasn’t it brought up last year, when the Governor was inaugurated, or the year before, when it looked like the Republicans were gonna win the state elections? Because it was politically advantageous to the state GOP—which is one seat away from losing their legislative majority in both houses—to release it now. None of them raised any issues when their US Senate nominee, Corey Stewart, went on racially charged tangents about immigrants DURING the election. Ralph Northam has proven in the year he’s been governor, that the guy in the photo is not him today, even if it might have been decades ago.

But what of the times in between ?

Well I guess I have a 486DX4 that still accepts EISA cards somewhere. I'll let you know if I find it.
