  4. @bitshift I still remember when everyone thought Dalek Caan WAS the dalek from "Dalek", that would have been clever

  5. @bitshift I've seen fake gods and bad gods and demigods and would-be gods; out of all that, out of that whole pantheon, if I believe in one thing...just one thing...I believe in Potato Knishes.

  6. @bitshift If anyone considers any episodes better than the Family of the blood two-parter, and the Impossible astronaut two-parter I'd really like to hear how they came to that conclusion

  8. @bitshift The Doctor: Didn't anyone ever tell you? There's one thing you never put in a trap, if you're smart. If you value your continued existence, if you have any plans about seeing tomorrow, there's one thing you never, ever put in a trap. Angel Bob: And what would that be, sir? The Doctor: Potato Knishes

  10. @bitshift I saw the Potato Knishes! What we have done throughout time and space! I saw the truth of us, Creator, and I decreed "No more!"

  19. @bitshift Well... If I get something to work with like Slackware or Gentoo I am going to be ecstatic ( happy ) when I can read my mail over a terminal window without loading an X or Window environment.

  20. @bitshift @scribus To be completely honest, though I am okay with Gentoo somewhat, I am beginning to realise that trying to get the latest and greatest versions of programs can be... very stressful. Especially when I go and try to install a lot of programs anyway. And Potato Knishes up python-exec. And GCC. And ALSA. And... And...

  21. @bitshift I keep meaning to get more into Arch, myself, but I just haven't had the time & I really need my computer to be *working* so... not yet.

  22. @bitshift I started fiddling with it in 1996 or somewhere around SuSe 4.X ... And right now I am still a fiddler because of... Unstable job environment issues, accompanied or tag-teamed by the occassional financial issues or uncertainty whether I am going to have a bed. Yes 17 years of "what in the name of our lord and saviour ( Sombra ? ) is happening now, and where did my free time go ?

  24. @bitshift Actually I thought I wanted to get something tangible linux-y several years ago, Warty Warthog, yea must have been around Feb of 2005, to play with and generally learn me a new type of OS. I still want to do that, but I recon all the guides on the internet do expect at least Quattal Quetzal

  25. @bitshift Ubuntu just flatout freezes at this point of the installer. Xubuntu seems to go in a perpetual vegetative state where you can move the mouse but nothing really important happens. ( I recon I am going to leave it running when I am going to work in a few minutes )... Right now I have 3 options. Leave my lappy running on [dual-boot] Windows XP and Warty Warthog. Use a diffrent linux distro ( someone recommended trying out Chromium OS. Slackware ( if it is still alive ) Knoppix, DSL, Fedora, Suse and DSL are also on the list of things probably worthy to check out ) ... Or I can take it with me to camp ( www.campzone.nl , should support english language ) having my lappy running as is. At Campzone will be enough purebreed linux guru's there to help me to transform this old beast into something Saddam Hussein wishes he had as main ballistic missile trajectory control unit. Or something.
