@macpony55 Why do they suck anyways? I'm using google translate and it's acting like dole.
-
@ponyrookie I will go under your bed.
-
@nvrrmbr I can't think of anything else. Oh fack.
-
@ponyrookie Google translate is the best I've found but even it can't handle Chinese perfectly, which is why I love using it when talking to people, unless they know Chinese too, there is a chance for me to confuse them when the translator screws up
-
@ponyrookie I've been creeping on you with google translate, and from what I've heard it struggles with non-latin characters due to the added complexity.
-
-
@eaglehooves wat?
-
@nvrrmbr XD... :|... D:
-
@macpony55 I have a good amount of friends (>100) in Taiwan (I made a Facebook just to communicate with them). Google translate makes our conversations quite interesting on both ends. They usually have less of an idea of what's going on than I do because I use other translation resources plus Google and I know a little Chinese myself. Google Translate is horrible in all regards and can't even do German to English very well.
-
-
@ponyrookie Non-latin characters don't get along well with computers, they try to read it to literally, at least from what an amateur programmer told me.
-
@eaglehooves Okeh..
-
@nvrrmbr I DON'T KNOW!
-
@ponyrookie Prepare yourself.
-
@nvrrmbr MY BODY IS NOT READY D: http://ur1.ca/56lrv
-
@ponybis I need to find more people who speak chinese, it makes it hard to memorize it when you can't have actual conversations, especially when speaking just due to how fast the language is
-
@macpony55 Chinese people are everywhere where I live. Also Koreans. Too bad I want to be fluent in Japanese the most and can't find any Japanese people around here. My only Japanese friend that lives here goes to a different school and I haven't spoken to him in a few years.
-
@ponybis Why do you want to learn Japanese?
-
@macpony55 I already understand a good amount of it, but I'm not yet fluent (probably about as much as a small child in the Country) and I want to get into the game industry when I'm older so I thought it'd be a decent language to learn. And there are a bunch of games I'd like to play that aren't getting localized. I want to learn Chinese for business purposes, but it's a lower priority right now. Ironically I may end up learning more of that first, though.
-
@ponybis There are some similarities between the two so it may end up benefiting you, the only reason I have for learning Chinese is my only other option was Spanish and that is too mainstream for me
-
@macpony55 In writing and some grammatical structure, yes, but I've seen a lot more borrow words in English - Japanese rather than Chinese - Japanese. I have an easier time understanding and remembering Japanese words and structures as well. I also hate Chinese characters so the Japanese alphabets are a nice help. And then Furigana is present a lot more than Pin Yin ever would be in the media so I can tell what some things are without having to learn the characters first.
-
@ponybis yeah, can't do that in Chinese :/ you either know it or you don't. There are a few radicals but they are almost useless
-
@macpony55 Apparently once you know it you can do it with radicals and context sort of like you can figure out words you don't know in English contextually.
-
@ponybis Well I'm at around 400 characters now and have so far found them to be of no help and you need to know around 3,000 just to read a newspaper, and that implies that you might still not even know all the characters in it and be guessing on some
-
@macpony55 What?
-
@miloththerepeaterofrdn good
-
@macpony55 so it's good that i'm being violated?
-
@miloththerepeaterofrdn well it depends on how you look at it
