    1. @ceruleanspark I love that for two reasons; A) Pretty obvious and B) How there's a seperate option for 'gay man' and 'gay women'

Thursday, 05-Apr-12 16:32:20 UTC from web
      1. @scribble There's separate options probably because they're associated with different behaviors.

      2. @scribble There usually is, in my experience.

        1. @thelastgherkin @nerthos I would have thought that if there was a sexual orientation option, there'd be a gender option too

          1. @scribble A bunch of forms I filled out for the government recently had three questions for it: the first was sex, the second was orientation (including separate options for gay men and gay women), and the third was transgender yes/no.

            1. @thelastgherkin Doesn't that make the 'gay man, gay women' option redundant, as opposed to just adding 'homosexual'?

              1. @scribble Clearly they had to put both so you could tick both. And then the trangender box.

                1. @ceruleanspark Perfect

Thursday, 05-Apr-12 16:43:13 UTC from web
              2. @scribble You'd think that.

                1. @thelastgherkin Silly government.

                  1. @scribble I think it's for pencil pushing reasons more than anything. Only having to look at one field of a database to see how many of each sexuality there is, instead of having to spend time cross-referencing it against gender.

            2. @thelastgherkin in private companies I see nothing wrong with that personally.

              1. @pony In a private company, as opposed to what?

Thursday, 05-Apr-12 16:44:27 UTC from web
                1. @thelastgherkin I know very little about business so "private" may not be the correct term. I'm thinking of little mom & pop owned and run small businesses as well as larger businesses owned by a single individual, family, or closed group.

      3. @scribble I wanna know what organisation is asking. It's basically illegal to ask that sort of thing.

        1. @ceruleanspark That's illegal? Everything is illegal now!

          1. @nerthos well i think its illegal to make them answer

Thursday, 05-Apr-12 16:36:59 UTC from web
          2. @nerthos You're not allowed to not-employ someone just because of their sexual preference.

            1. @ceruleanspark well they can get around that pretty easily these days by just saying it was because of something else...

              1. @polocatfan Yeah. In England the typical thing is to say they're doing it for "Equality reasons".

            2. @ceruleanspark I always defended the right of the employers to employ whoever they want, because the work is theirs. Everyone has the right to decide who and why works for them.

    5. @ceruleanspark well there was a papayasstorm when my local council started asking questions about sexuality and even asking if people were transgender. Simply in surveys regarding them emptying bins
