  1. I sometimes wish I could punch people through a computer screen. "No, Omni, !Linux sucks because you can only use a command line, it won't run anything else" is what I have been told literally 10 minutes before. Why do some people still live in the 60s?

    1. @omni You just need to come to accept that Linux sucks. Then everything will become simple.

      1. @ceruleanspark When I think about it, I guess you're right. I mean, an OS that randomly crashes with Blue Screens of Death, is inconsistent, does not have a centralized package downloading system, becomes slow from installing and removing software, has an official installation system that can't clean installations up decently, is completely proprietary and completely ignores all open standards is clearly much better =/

        1. @omni You have missed my point entirely dear. My point was "Rise above it." Some people are stupid. They cannot help this fact. However, you, as an enlightened person, have the capability to exclude their moron noises from your worldview.

          1. @eaglehooves @omni it's got it's quirks, but if you know what your doing it's not as bad as a lot of the Linux crowd loves to say it is.

Monday, 16-Apr-12 14:32:11 UTC from StatusNet iPhone
          2. @eaglehooves People tell me that all the time, but I guess it's my fault for expecting Windows to be able to take the stress I put on my Linux system. I keep forgetting I am supposed to use two completely different standards for Windows and Linux, just like a BSoD every now and then is acceptable on Windows, but a Linux kernel panic is completely unacceptable. And I guess I shouldn't try to install 4000 programs like I'm running on my Linux either...

Monday, 16-Apr-12 14:33:44 UTC from Choqok
            1. @omni I don't know, the two standards approach makes sense if you view Windows as a consumer operating system and Linux as a professional one. Like the difference between a hatchback and a sportscar.

                  1. @ceruleanspark I've tried Haiku, I like the idea and basic design, but I dislike the fact that I can't choose my own desktop environment/window manager. Feels too "locked-in" like Windows, where they decide how everything works and I can't decide that.

Monday, 16-Apr-12 14:43:39 UTC from Choqok
            3. @omni I grew up on and service Windows, so I'm a little biased. I'd say a BSoD is unacceptable, though, and I'll admit that it is resource intensive. The lack of centralized packages never bothered me though. Overall, I'd say they're for different types of people/devices. Windows is big, but works well on newer systems, Linux takes

              1. @eaglehooves takes a little getting used to. I boot to it now and then for a few things only it does, but as a Desktop OS, Windows works better for casual users.

                1. @eaglehooves The complaint I hear most often is that you can't play games on Linux. While not really true, I have to admit there are really a lower amount of games, especially AAA titles available for non-Windows systems. However, I see more and more engines gaining Linux support and Desura seems to be doing well, so I still hope. Then again, even if it doesn't become popular, I just can keep using it myself. I'm not much of a gamer anyway.

                  1. @omni On one of the other hooves, AAA games suck these days; all the good new games are indie games and those have a good track record of supporting Linux, especially the Humble Indie Bundle games.

                    1. @toksyuryel I agree there, but most people won't even look outside of their small world of Generic Shooter # and Rehashed Remade Sequel # Guess people literally care too little and the only way to get people to try Linux is to either pre-install it or install it on old systems that have become too weak to run any supported version of Linux.

Monday, 16-Apr-12 14:51:21 UTC from Choqok
                  2. @omni That, and driver support for some systems isn't great. My laptop works pretty lousy on Linux, actually.

Monday, 16-Apr-12 14:50:13 UTC from StatusNet iPhone
                    1. @eaglehooves I personally have had more driver issues on Windows than on Linux, but I've heard of a few cases where driver issues occur on Linux. It's one of those "Companies: we won't support you because you're not big enough" -> "System: we can't grow without decent support" circles. Can't say more than that it's too bad and I'm sorry it didn't work for you.

                        1. @eaglehooves It's disappointing that the company doesn't check if the system is properly supported before installing an OS on it.
