    1. @weimtime007 yup! We like to welcome newponies! Do you make the midi files yourself?

Monday, 30-Apr-12 03:34:49 UTC from StatusNet iPhone
      1. @techdisk42 Many of them are collaboration efforts. I have worked with skootties, NewWorldMare, whyPon, DJDelta0, ReedMaceStar, and OwnageOwnz on a variety of MIDI projects. All of the ones I have done are listed in my channel along with the people I worked with to make it happen. Some MIDIs I have made myself, some I have done with others. It all depends on the difficulty of the transcription.

            1. @weimtime007 Why, thanks! It's a labor of love. We started out just wanting to play pony songs, and here we are 11 months later with people submitting their awesome music to us. It's pretty amazing.

                1. @weimtime007 did you work on the midi of winter wrap up that is up on everypony sings? I used it in a floppy vid ^_^

Monday, 30-Apr-12 04:23:39 UTC from StatusNet iPhone
                  1. @techdisk42 I never did a winter wrap up one. It wasn't necessary since it's been done about 7 or 8 times now. I contributed to a lot of the season 2 finale songs as well as some visualizations for some of the songs. I try to hit up the things that haven't been done before. I just now realize what you mean by Floppy MIDI. When I first saw your videos I was quite amazed. I never new floppies could be used for something like that.

                    1. @weimtime007 lol, When I first saw a floppy drive music vid, i immediately wanted to do it too. I love how they sound on some songs, it just works so well! It's simple how the drives can make the music, but it's not too simple to explain...

Monday, 30-Apr-12 04:35:06 UTC from StatusNet iPhone
                      1. @techdisk42 I gotta say, it's one of the most creative things I've seen.

                        1. @weimtime007 heh, the most creative physical part about it is finding a way wiring it all to a little circuitboard without having them touch or have bad connection :P the MIDIs i just get off the blathernet and edit to be within B4 and C1.

Monday, 30-Apr-12 04:41:15 UTC from StatusNet iPhone
                          1. @techdisk42 Sounds neat. You know, it sure would be cool if you put my MIDI of "Good Ol' Days" on those floppies.

Monday, 30-Apr-12 04:46:36 UTC from web
                            1. @weimtime007 yep! Ill do that for sure! How many channels does it have not including percussion? I'm gonna have to fit it into 4 channels.

Monday, 30-Apr-12 04:49:20 UTC from StatusNet iPhone
                              1. @techdisk42 9 in my originally transcribed version. But I recently turned it into 4 to fit 4 parts if a duet for the sheet music. Just let me know what you need and I'll send it to you.

Monday, 30-Apr-12 04:53:15 UTC from web
                                1. @weimtime007 owhh, if it's already in four parts, that would be great! But is it four parts that each only have one note playing at a time, or is it full of chords? Floppies cant do chords whatsoever. One note at a time.

Monday, 30-Apr-12 04:55:21 UTC from StatusNet iPhone
                                  1. @techdisk42 EGAD! My good man, have you seen the song? Why do you think it was hard to transcribe in the first place. Tomb sure does like to make his songs complex. The raw version has 9 channels. Two of which can be combined with another channel. But if you're talking about single note parts for each floppy, we're looking at approximately 8 channels. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Y_bV9qvMOA

Monday, 30-Apr-12 05:08:06 UTC from web
                                    1. @weimtime007 well, I can actually mash some of the channels into one channel since instruments are ignored by the drives. If one channel isn't playing anything, I can copy another channel into it to cut it down. Thing is, if it's 8 channels, if I can get my hands on four more FDD drives, I'll be able to do it raw. Anything more than 8 is impossible since I would have run out of space to plug in on the microcontroller.

Monday, 30-Apr-12 05:12:03 UTC from StatusNet iPhone
                                      1. @techdisk42 Actually, after looking at it more thoroughly, it just fits 8 channels. So we're in luck. Now what.

Monday, 30-Apr-12 05:18:46 UTC from web
                                        1. @weimtime007 I find 4 more floppy drives, or I do some sorcery and edit it down to 4 tracks. Maybe. If the most notes played across tracks at any time is four or less, I'm clear for usin four drives. If not, I'm not gonna touch it till I get my four drives.

Monday, 30-Apr-12 05:22:05 UTC from StatusNet iPhone
                                          1. @techdisk42 I thought you said a floppy can only play one note at a time? And if you need more floppies, I can go halfsies and buy two of them and directly sent to your place.

Monday, 30-Apr-12 05:26:38 UTC from web
                                            1. @weimtime007 Let me rephrase: if at any one time in the whole 8 track song only 4 of those tracks are actively playing anything, I can mash it down so that one drive will play the part of two or three tracks. The catch is that if the tracks overlap as they play notes, they can't be combined.

Monday, 30-Apr-12 05:33:02 UTC from StatusNet iPhone
                                              1. @techdisk42 Ahh I understand now. This is simpler than I thought. It'll only need 4 drives then. 2 for the Bass tracks or Secondo, and 2 for the Melody tracks or Primo. The duet version of the song sounds no different than the raw. I only combined the tracks for the purpose of transcribing sheet music. You said you have FL right? do you want me to send you the file?

Monday, 30-Apr-12 05:39:22 UTC from web
                                                1. @weimtime007 WOO! PERFECT! I got two desegnated "bass" drives and two "melody" drives. it's amazing how floppy drives can be somehow suited to diffrent notes. And you could send the file, but I'm on my iPod now and won't be able to do anything with it (not even download) till at earliest tomorrow night.

Monday, 30-Apr-12 05:43:49 UTC from StatusNet iPhone
                                                2. @weimtime007 and I have the free version of FL, so I don't think I can open a project file.

Monday, 30-Apr-12 05:45:03 UTC from StatusNet iPhone
                                                  1. @techdisk42 You actually shouldn't need FL. I could send the file to you as 4 separate MIDI (2 Bass and 2 Melody), 2 Separate MIDI (1 combined Bass and 1 combined Melody), or just as one giant MIDI with a combined bass and melody. How do you want it?

Monday, 30-Apr-12 05:49:15 UTC from web
                                                    1. @weimtime007 1 file, 4 separate tracks. I'll import the midi into FL and edit so that its within the limits of floppy drives. I'll also have to change which channel each track is on because i wired the drives weirdly so that 1 is main melody, 2 is main bass, 3 is a much quieter bass, and 4 is second melody.

Monday, 30-Apr-12 05:53:56 UTC from StatusNet iPhone
                                                      1. @techdisk42 It's ready to send out. Where too?

        2. @weimtime007 I would try to help, as I'm pretty good at hearing diffrent parts of songs and transcripting, but I would need to either learn how to properly use FL studio, or find an easier MIDI editor.

Monday, 30-Apr-12 03:41:51 UTC from StatusNet iPhone
          1. @techdisk42 Let me tell you how many MIDI editing programs I've been through... countless. I like FL, but I've bet there are way better ones out there. I've always wanted to try Cubase, but their license control program doesn't allow very much access. You actually have to pay like $40 just to try a trial version of the program, That's plain ridiculous. Switching between NoteFlight, FL, Anvil, and my friend's Pro Logic 9 have certainly helped.

Monday, 30-Apr-12 03:48:13 UTC from web
            1. @weimtime007 hmm... I should try some of those. FL is ok, though I use the trial. Some of it's antics are annoying, though... I sometimes use an extremely easy program called ORGmaker to create stuff, but it makes .org files, not midi files. It would take too long to explain the difference, but they are pretty much incompatible.

              2. @techdisk42 They say Ableton is supposed to be the "easiest to use" based on many reviews, but I haven't gotten around to figuring it out yet.

                1. @weimtime007 I'll look it up. Currently I'm working on editing a midi of forest rain's hay ms derpy for my floppy drives. It doesn't come with the lyrics, so I'm either gonna upload the instrumental and edit in the actual lyrics or transpose the lyrics into the midi. FL studio does not cooperate when I try to do so...
