@actualcannibalabigpony well.. I guess technically she's a fan of the show still.. the conversion is ongoing. Right now she's on episode 12 of season 1. She's watched half the season in less than 3 days.

@mushi This common misconception stems from with how the American dubbing was handled. In Japan, each series has its own name and was broken up into proper seasons each ~13 episodes in length. The dubs were done after these finished airing and the distinctions between each series were removed (the only reason we know them now is because fans looked them up and told the rest of us), and they aired all at once with none of the original breaks between seasons that existed creating the appearance that each series was only a very long season of one larger series, when in fact the overall franchise consists of numerous series each of which consists of usually four normal-length seasons. Notice how the major story arcs tend to coincide with every 13th episode or so for evidence of this.

@actualcannibalabigpony The word is synonymous with fan (specially a female brony who has decided that for whatever reason that the word "brony" has to be male-only). I hate when people say "just a fan", it's a very clear indication they don't know what the word "fan" even means.

@toksyuryel Well I've always considered the term "brony" to mean someone who is a fan of the show and actively participates in the fandom. A fan of the show is just a fan of the show. Likes the show and might indulge in the occasional discussion about it or something IRL with a friend. Por ejemplo: I am a brony, but I am also just a fan of Psych.

@actualcannibalabigpony Being a fan of something is not the same thing as just liking it. The word fan comes from "fanatic" and implies at least some level of obsession with the material.

@toksyuryel According to Wikipedia, you're right and bronies would be considered fans, but I hold to my view. bronies are still fans, they just participate in it's central fandom. it could be just also my conflicting view that a brony is just a fan who feels they deserve a special term. What I'm saying is that you're right and I'm too stubborn to give up my view.
