@oracle I suppose I might be able to get a job coding without a minor, but it'd be hard since I've never done that type of work before. Even with a minor it'd be hard without experience.

*needs an internship*

@tia if you have any friends in connection to the field try calling them and asking if they can either help get you an internship or recommend a place that might have some open.

@mylittlesistercantbethisincestual Connections. Yeah. I should try that before sending requests to companies that I see listing entry level work to let me learn and help them without pay. I doubt that'd work anyway. I'd still have to face my demons though with respect to coding. There was once a time I enjoyed it.

@tia is it to late to switch majors? Do you really want to major and then pursue a job in a field you're not happy in?

@mylittlesistercantbethisincestual way way too late to switch. I'm being forced to graduate this spring

@tia my only advice then would be to find an aspect you do like about it and try to focus on that. If you can find any way to make it enjoyable or even tolerable you'll be better off.

@mylittlesistercantbethisincestual A degree need not be related to what one does for work and still improve my pay. If necessary I could go back to my previous company and get a job as a residential manager which would at least get me benefits and probably be more enjoyable than coding. I'm not too fond of the idea though since it might mean a couple more years of restraining and cleaning up after violent and severely disabled people. Another option I thought of was working in a hospital as a psych tech (like an orderly for a mental hospital). But I'm not going to worry about it til I graduate. Once I do I'll have the freedom to do any of the above, take a second job, or hopefully apply for a manager position at the school for disabled boys where I'm working currently.

@tia this amazing system of "a degree = more money regardless of what the degree is" has never made sense to me. I'll leave that to the thinkers I guess.

@mylittlesistercantbethisincestual It just shows you've the discipline to make it through the system I guess. I suppose employers like that.

@tia i understand degrees that qualify you for a job that you otherwise wouldn't be able to do, such as teaching, law, and medicine, however judging an employees ability to work, or their discipline all based on an irrelevant papaer is beyond me. You can see just fine if they're a diligent or disciplined worker based on how they actuallly perform.

@mylittlesistercantbethisincestual that's true, but with the piece of paper they're more likely to have a good worker, kind of like a guarantee, so, though the pay boost usually isn't much in jobs unrelated to the degree, it at least affords a small boost.

@tia i will stick to my probably fruitless pursuit of a law degree that will likely result in my working as a paralegal on 30k salary

@mylittlesistercantbethisincestual All my best to you!

@oracle I figured out too late that animation wasn't the right path for me. I waster 3 years on it before they rejected my application the last time and I settled with Italian. Oddly, though, I find I love writing more than anything, and the literature it exposed me to helped me. I'll attempt to publish a book eventually, but for now I'm just going to find a steady day job.

@tia by steady I mean sufficient pay for supporting a wife who doesn't work.
