    1. @ceruleanspark So basically normal data rates apply? Mine wanted me to pay my carrier a service fee on top of the data fee in order to use what's built into the OS

      1. @lulu Yeah. Thats your carriers choice. The "off brand" tethering solutions typically avoid that by cloaking your traffic to hide the fact you're using a tether.

        1. @ceruleanspark Ah ok. So if your carrier wants to make you pay more on an iPhone, is using the "off brand" still a solution rather than the OS's default?

          1. @lulu I think carriers have wised up to a lot of the jailbreak tether techniques now, but I'm not certain.

            1. @ceruleanspark I see. Well I suppose as long as there's no need for me to circumvent my carrier's extra fee and us my phone as a mobile hot spot, then iOS has the same functionality as android... Oh no wait.. Can iPhones download Youtube videos?

                1. @ceruleanspark oh nice! The Google Play store won't allow us to download a fully functioning Youtube downloader as far as I can tell, so I had to go to the Amazon app store.

                        1. @broniebrown Oh nice! My network blocks dailymotion, but I might be able to get it on my work connection still.

                          1. @lulu Using youtube-dl is fairly easy altough it is a terminal program. "youtube-dl videourl" downloads the video in its highest resolution. If you want to check out which resolutions are available for that video you need to type "youtube-dl -F videourl". Then you just type "youtube-dl -f videoformat videourl". An example for youtube: "youtube-dl -f 18 -t http://ur1.ca/gljr1 " (-t is an option to use the video's title as file name, especially on youtube the default file name is just the youtube-id).

                            1. @broniebrown oh cool. Will it run in Windows terminal or linux or both?

Sunday, 09-Feb-14 14:26:45 UTC from web
                              1. @lulu The site has a version for both systems. There is a simple exe for windows but on Linux you need python installed but that's not a big problem.
