  1. We might do well to remember that stricter gun laws might reduce gun attacks, but they don't necessarily help reduce violent crime rates. http://pny.lv/3ajw

    1. @pony Yeah except I'd rather be attacked by someone I can potentially overpower than shot from a distance.

    2. @pony A lot of things can be considered a violent crime. Me going out and punching someone can be considered a violent crime. That's not gonna kill them though.

    3. @pony Did you even read the article, by the way? "The meme said "there are over 2,000 crimes recorded per 100,000 population in the U.K.," compared to "466 violent crimes per 100,000" in the United States. Our preliminary attempt to make an apples-to-apples comparison shows a much smaller difference in violent crime rates between the two countries, but criminologists say differences in how the statistics are collected make it impossible to produce a truly valid comparison. We rate the claim False."

      1. @scoot It just goes to show there's a lack of evidence for either side's argument. Based purely on logic, if every responsible person in a community carried a weapon of equal power (firearm or not) as well as every irresponsible person, eventually there wouldn't be as many irresponsible people.

    4. @pony Am I allowed to ask whether you think "Because it is not proven it will work, it is better not to do anything instead" ?

      1. @critialcloudkicker You are allowed, but I could ask the same to proponents of gun control

        1. @pony Meh, that might be silly and sort of recursive at this point
