  1. Also Pacific Rim. First line of defense is always giant robots.

    1. @nerthos And not something practical like, an emergency evacuation plan for civilians, or thousands of weapons that are made to destroy huge tall creatures? Many plasma cannons? *shrugs*

      1. @metaltao Tradition dictates that our first line of defence always be costly and ineffective.

      2. @metaltao You can put many plasma cannons on a robot. Or just make the robot angry. http://rainbowdash.net/attachment/774283

        1. @nerthos The only Eva that got /really/ mad was Unit 02. Even Shinji's moms temper tantrums weren't comparable.

            1. @nerthos You say that but in the second Rebuild movie he did that and it didn't help. It made things worse for everyone involved.

              1. @cinnamonswirl He was still the same idiot. I'm talking about a different, more capable character. Asuka's skill and a mature personality.

                  1. @cinnamonswirl Moral of the story is gay aliens are more competent that human kids. To be honest I never liked Kaworu.

    3. @ellie Also absolutely useless. Saving based on money is stupid, you should save based on ability. Save the brightest minds and most skilled hands. That way you'll have the manpower and knowledge to rebuild civilization if needed, plus you'll modify the genetic pool in a way that most children would be born with really useful hereditary knowledge.

Sunday, 24-Aug-14 22:19:05 UTC from web
      1. @nerthos Turns out you only need 160 people to maintain the requisite genetic diversity to avoid inbreeding complications.

Sunday, 24-Aug-14 22:20:15 UTC from web
        1. @cinnamonswirl Huh, a pretty small number. I was thinking about saving at least half a million around the world. Current technology allows us to mantain such a population without needing huge amounts of land.

          1. @nerthos Nasa did the research. They were trying to figure out how many people they'd need to jump start a self sustaining martian colony.

      2. @nerthos Although I may debate the "Hereditary Knowledge" I agree, We need to focus on science and hard work first and fore most, not something trivial as money.

Sunday, 24-Aug-14 22:21:55 UTC from web
        1. @metaltao Hereditary knowledge is a reality. I'm proof enough of that, as are so many others. It's sometimes called talent.

          1. @nerthos I have a lot of questions, does this have the probability of having some self loving ass hats creating some form of stupid thing with people who are gifted being o top? I agree that sounds fun but we must have safe guards and be reminded that people might try to do that, so, give precedents!

            1. @metaltao It's called a meritocracy and it's humanity's best hope for the future. A society where social status is determined by ability.

              1. @nerthos I'm sick of your doleing pretentiousness and acting like YOU ALONE are capable of deciding what is best for literally everyone on the planet

    4. @ellie That's why you don't put governments in charge of anything on which the future of mankind depends. You place it in the hands of gifted idealists. See Mr. House.

Sunday, 24-Aug-14 22:24:17 UTC from web
      1. @nerthos Mr. House also failed too, but, Governments do work, the peple just need to stop them from not working but working together and not being separated by ideals on such a level.
