  1. I traced the keyframes and then added in the inbetweens myself as a little exercise. I tried to keep the timing as accurate as possible. Here's my shot right next to the shot that's currently on TV. !animation http://rainbowdash.net/url/774502

    1. @mrmattimation Wow, that really puts into perspective how mechanical and unnatural the current show's animation is.

        1. @mrmattimation Oh my god, that fist shaking animation has like, no in betweens whatsoever.

          1. @northernnarwhal According to the guy who animated it, the fist shake was added in by the higher-ups after he had handed it to them. I dunno about that guy, but I would be bananasED if somebody did that.

            1. @mrmattimation Especially considering how sloppy of a job they did.

              1. @northernnarwhal Yeah. It's a shame, first-hand accounts from the animators claim that the Simpsons directors won't LET them be creative with the shots. I wish I could find the quotes, but somebody once posted on DeviantArt that Matt Greoning rejected a lot of their shots during the opening sequence because it was "too cartoony"

                1. @mrmattimation Wow, I didn't even realize Matt Greoning had become such a buzzkill over the years. It's almost like he's embarrassed that's The Simpsons is an animated cartoon and wants it to be just another adult sitcom.

                  2. @northernnarwhal I think it's pretty funny, because the creator of Ren & Stimpy was asked to animate the opening sequence in "Bart Stops To Smell the Roosevelts", and he's like the definition of cartoony animation.

                    1. @mrmattimation I'll have to check that episode out, or at least the opening. I love Ren and Stimpy.

            2. @mrmattimation The fist shake legitimately reminds me of "animation" I did when I was 11 and had MSPaint and Windows Movie Maker to work with

            3. @mrmattimation Is there any reason why they couldn't have the animator do it which is his job to do it for them so it'd be done properly?

              1. @tekkdan It could be that not enough money is going to the animation, (in 2011, the voice cast was getting paid so much that they didn't have enough money to pay anyone else and the show was almost canceled) but I think it's more likely that the producers have a fetish for their characters being "on model", and they probably think they can do that better than the people they pay to do that.
