  1. Also to be fair, all of the races in Destiny are pretty unoriginal.

    1. @fyf Oh? Like would you say they are "Standard" just every game Classes or a bit more different than that? Do they stand out in any to you?

      1. @metaltao Okay, I have fairly specific issues with this part of the game. It isn't that any of the races are "bad", just uninspired. Basically, for player characters, you have humans, which are humans, Awoken, which are blue humans, and Exo, which are android humans. They all look pretty cool, but they're still fairly generic archetypes.

Then there are the enemies. So far in my playthrough, I've encountered the Fallen, which are fairly standard humanoid aliens, the Hive, which feel like ripoffs of Collectors from Mass Effect (both visually and mechanically), Vex, which are just these android things, and the Cabal, which look like humans in huge, bulky armor.

Here's a picture so you get the idea http://rainbowdash.net/url/777757

Now, it's not just their theme and appearance that bothers me, there's more to it [continued]

      2. @metaltao Not a single opposing race in this game has any hint of personality. Their only motivation for doing anything they do is because they're evil. Mechanically, the different races are very similar (they all have a fast, weak unit that charges you and melees you, an average, gun wielding unit, a bulky, shielded unit, then some sort of flying unit).

The thing is, writers in a game like this want you to take a certain side. They don't want you sympathizing with the enemy or liking them at all. A lot of the times, in order to make sure this doesn't happen, they just make the enemy braindead drones with no redeeming qualities. It has the intended affect, it makes you hate them. I hate most of the enemies in Destiny so far, not because they're evil, but because they're boring.

They also introduce new enemies way too quickly, they don't have enough time to expand on the enemies they've already introduced.

        1. @fyf Hmmmm, BrainDead, as in lack of History, or in lack of feeling when shot as in they ac as Ants.

          1. @metaltao Both, honestly. They all /have/ history but it's barely touched upon in the game. It's not so much that they lack feeling, it's more like they lack personality. They're all just mindless minions. Granted, that's pretty normal in video games, but even like the bosses and leaders have no personality. I can't help but compare it to Mass Effect, where every race has culture, beliefs, ideals, all that kind of stuff. In Destiny they exist entirely for the sake of being shot at/shooting at you.

            1. @fyf They sound like good soldiers.

              1. @metaltao Even the Krogan, from Mass Effect, who were meant to be perfect soldiers, had personality.

A species who exists for nothing except murder and conquest can be acceptable, like the Daleks in Doctor Who, it just doesn't work when /every/ race is like that.

                1. @fyf i always thought of the krogan as the Golden Horde of space.

                  1. @thewyrmawl Pretty much. Even then, they had personality, different Krogans behaved differently, they had motivation for their actions.
