@awlditzy And they can't agree on the words
Saturday, 27-Sep-14 04:32:17 UTC from web-
@nerthos I have like three different versions with lyrics. One of those from Fransisco period.
Saturday, 27-Sep-14 04:32:49 UTC from web-
@awlditzy I also have one from that time, that my grandfather used to sing:
Hombre, caramba,
que cara mas estúpida que tiene usted
Si usté es un animal
Bestia, salvaje
Cuatro patas y el morraje
Si hasta con el tiempo usté va a rebuznarSaturday, 27-Sep-14 04:35:08 UTC from web-
@nerthos That's murdocking hilarious.
Saturday, 27-Sep-14 04:36:33 UTC from web-
@awlditzy Yeah, my grandfather came to America following the civil wat, and people who didn't like Franco used to sing that kind of stuff.
Saturday, 27-Sep-14 04:38:02 UTC from web-
@nerthos Oh, I didn't realise you had that direct of a Spanish lineage. Neato.
Saturday, 27-Sep-14 04:38:43 UTC from web-
@awlditzy I have citizenship, even.
Saturday, 27-Sep-14 04:41:15 UTC from web-
@nerthos Which in turn means I can freely walk through any country in the European union.
Saturday, 27-Sep-14 04:41:43 UTC from web -
@nerthos Is that why you're learning more Castillian words?
Saturday, 27-Sep-14 04:41:51 UTC from web-
@awlditzy Not really. I learn words because I like having extensive knowledge of languages. I pick up Spanish words by talking to people from Spain or reading books translated for that market. It's also worth noting that Castillian is actually the name of the language at large, while Spanish is the variety spoken in spain.
Saturday, 27-Sep-14 04:43:47 UTC from web-
@nerthos I am used to calling it thus for the word in Catalan for it is Castellà, and is used to denote that spoken in Spain.
Saturday, 27-Sep-14 04:45:04 UTC from web-
@awlditzy Because the language is a direct derivation of that spoken in the historical Reino de Castilla, which ended up becoming the most prominent kingdom of Spain before it united, and thus the official language. It then extended globally when Spain became an empire, and since the conquerors and settlers mainly used Castillian it ended up being called simply Spanish by many.

@nerthos I know a little about the other languages of Spain, and that Castillian became the dominant language in union. I think Aragonese doesn't really exist anymore in terms of native speakers, but Catalan is still very strong. Actually it surprised me to see signs in Barcelona read in Catalan first.
Saturday, 27-Sep-14 04:51:13 UTC from web-
@awlditzy Because Cataluña retained nationalism while Aragón mostly integrated. Galicia is a similar case to Cataluña, if less secesionist.
Saturday, 27-Sep-14 04:53:02 UTC from web-
@nerthos Yeah that's true, Galician does still exist as a taught language too. Not sure about Basque but they have peaks of nationalism.
Saturday, 27-Sep-14 04:54:20 UTC from web-
@awlditzy I used to watch a pretty good comedy show that focused on Cataluña, vaya semanita. I wonder if I can find that as a torrent or something.
Saturday, 27-Sep-14 04:56:52 UTC from web-
@nerthos Seems they have a youtube channel with some episodes, and parts of something called Euskadi Movie?
Saturday, 27-Sep-14 05:01:57 UTC from web-
@awlditzy Never checked the Euskadi movie. If you understand Spanish decently, look up "vaya semanita jubilados", they have some sketches that are an 11/10 about two old men who comment on things to the point of completely alienating everyone else.

@nerthos watching a little "humor de diego peréz" before bed showed i don't understand it well as i used to, but i'll give it a shot.
