    1. @nerthos Your monitor isn't even 1080p.

      1. @jamster But, maybe he doesn't want 1080p?

      2. @jamster Well, that's because 1080p is a 16:9 definition and i don't like those. Someone offered me a 19" 5:4 screen for good money and I said "sure" since I don't actually need more definition if I'm going to sit half a meter away from it.

        1. @nerthos 5:4? That's a weird aspect ratio.

          1. @mrmattimation Lots of old CRT monitors were made in 1280x1024.

            1. @redenchilada That's 5:4? Oh, in that case, yeah, nevermind.

          2. @mrmattimation It was popular among producers as an alternative to 16:9 for those who wanted squarey screens some years back. Apparently graphical designers liked them. I jumped on the chance of a squarey 19" monitor when they told me the price. I actually have two such monitors and two 17" ones of the same line around.

        2. @nerthos You're saying that you can't tell the difference between resolutions, your monitor isn't 1080p therefore you can't see a difference because it's not supported.

          1. @jamster My secondary is 1080p and I can't tell a difference between it and 720p if I'm actually ingame. If I'm on my desktop, I can tell, but that's because everything's really small.

          2. @jamster You are making the mistake of assuming that I, a technician who actually works on those things for money, haven't used 1080p monitors simply because I've decided on a screen of another definition. You are mistaken. You have also misread me, I never said the difference can't be told, what I said is that it is not a necessity. You don't need a surgical laser cutter when you only need to cut a steak. Sure, it might be cool to show to your friends how you can slice a perfect circle on that pork rib, but will the precision cutting actually affect the taste once you put it in your mouth?

            2. @nerthos Higher pixel density higher the better overall image, but it's all down to preferences.

    2. @nerthos There's a reason I render all of my cartoons at 720p. Because who cares, it's 2D horse drawings, nobody's gonna notice the difference. Plus it takes like a fourth of the time to render.
