HOLY CRAP. WHY DIDN"T I HEAR ABOUT THIS EARLIER. "And Tara Strong, the voice of everyone's favorite egghead, Twilight Sparkle, will be joining us for the weekend." !bronycon
about a year ago from web-
@widget Good question. That's been announced since last BroNYCon
about a year ago from web-
@abigpony I thought that was just Lauren Faust and John DeLancie.

@widget Wait, that doesn't say that, but it does say it on the Meetup page.

@abigpony It's weird how your only post after five hours of inactivity is you being a jerk.
about a year ago from web-
@widget >abigpony >being a jerk >weird
about a year ago from web -
@widget I wasn't trying to be a jerk. Why do people always assume I'm constantly a jerk?
about a year ago from web-
@abigpony Lack of evidence to the contrary.
about a year ago from web-
@colfax Is there a way I might go about changing this?
about a year ago from web
-
-
@abigpony People like to assume that others only have one mode of thought because it makes it easier for said person to categorize people, ergo "this guy is always whiny" or "this guy is always rude".
about a year ago from web-
@redenchilada What would that make me good sir?
about a year ago from web-
@lyrica I like to think of you as "the happy-go-lucky guy who makes others happy". If and when I need to generalize.
about a year ago from web-
@redenchilada aww that makes me happy, that's honestly what I try to be :3
about a year ago from web -

@redenchilada Lame. Guess I might as well stick with it at this point. Every good site needs a bad member.

@abigpony You're not constantly a jerk, you're USUALLY a jerk. Big difference. I can get along with you. Sometimes. When the moon is full. On a Saturday.
about a year ago from web-
@widget Hey, now, that's just wrong. Don't you know it's the _half_ moon on a _Wednesday_?
about a year ago from web-
@redenchilada Not really sure what you're trying to get at xD.
about a year ago from web
-
-
@widget Well papayas, I guess it's too late to change it then.
about a year ago from web-
@abigpony Ready when you are.
about a year ago from web-
@widget butt how?
about a year ago from web-
@abigpony Read things before posting them. Because people already assume you're a jerk, look hard for the worst possible tone that could be interpreted, and if it's really bad retype it until it's not.
-
@widget but I always think about every word when i type it and I honestly can't think of any other way to explain myself most of the time. I usually read over my messages a few times before sending them too, just so I don't usually sound as bad as I could. This is where I get confused when people give me advice on how to better myself on here because they tell me this same stuff and I respond the same way and they're always like "welp, guess you're just a terrible person then." Could you provide examples or something?
about a year ago from web-
@abigpony Well, I could use the previous comment as an example. It all hinges on the phrase "good question". Silly I know, but if you take just those two words away, it becomes a lot less hostile-sounding. Something more along the lines of "yeah, I think that's been announced since last BronyCon." Maybe add a smiley ( such as xD ) at the end if you want to be extra sure it's not misinterpreted.
-
@widget 1) those smilies are stupid as hell? What am I, a middle-school girl? 2) putting the "yeah" at the beginning like that sounds more hostile to me than what I put because it sounds really smart-alack-y. I guess it's the way were raised or something.
about a year ago from web-
@abigpony You're not a middle school girl, you're a human being communicating over the Internet with no auditory or visual cues from the person you're communicating with. It's like a Helen Keller simulation.
-
@widget But you can still pick up tone from the way their writing and that's what we're arguing. your choice of words determines tonality based on family, location, etc. and that's why I brought up the possibility of the way were are raised. Should I use more reaction images or something? Those are fine compared to emoticons for me.
about a year ago from web
-
-
@abigpony Just drop the filler words then. The "I think" however, is a good cushion.
-
@widget but what if I know? http://ur1.ca/9eoum
about a year ago from web-
@abigpony You didn't know, but even if you did, you aren't even going. I felt kind of insulted that someone who wasn't even going to BronyCon was telling me I missed some significant detail of it for five months, even after I read the June 2012 homepage at least six times after it went up.
-
@widget Here's my random observation: you seem to be arguing with someone over the internet about what parts of internet communication make you look nice and what parts make you look dumb. I'm legitimately confused; can you clarify the reasoning behind this?
about a year ago from web-
@redenchilada I'm not arguing, I'm attempting to give advice. I can stop if things seem out of hand.
-
-
@widget So now you're just attacking me because I knew something you didn't as opposed to the phrasing. It seems like I DID know and you should probably chill or something.
about a year ago from web-
@abigpony Okay, I'll chill. Sorry.
-
@widget Good man, now back to the advice. What do?
about a year ago from web-
@abigpony I thought I already gave my advice?
-
@widget the "Just drop the filler words then. The "I think" however, is a good cushion."? Again, what if I know or it's a fact? What would classify as a filler word?
about a year ago from web-
@abigpony "good question" and "yeah" are filler words. Even if you know something for sure, "I think" (or even "I'm pretty sure") is a good way to soften the impact. If you're absolutely 100% sure of something (this is usually impossible), use those phrases anyway.
-
@widget "If you're absolutely sure it's true, say 'I think' anyway"? That's horrible advice.
about a year ago from web-
@redenchilada If you're that sure of something, you usually should back it up with some kind of evidence.
-
@widget Then tell them to back it up with evidence. Don't tell them to say "I think $eventOccurance" if they have proof that $eventOccurance is real.
about a year ago from web-
@redenchilada "I think that $eventoccurance is real." "Why?" "Because $evidence"
-
@widget "Those rocks fell. I know this because I watched gravity pull them down from the top ledge to the ground right here." Saying "I think" in that instance only makes you look silly. I'm not saying _never_ use the phrase, but it has an actual meaning, not just filler.
about a year ago from web-
@redenchilada I'm more talking about when you're telling people they're wrong or have been otherwise out of the loop or misinformed. It's better to use something such as "Are you sure? Because I thought..." rather than "That's not right. It's..."
-
@redenchilada Disclaimer: If I'm not making sense at this point it's because it's 3AM.
-
@widget Pff, only 3AM? Weakling.
about a year ago from web-
@bitshift I have stayed up through sunrise. You do not want to meet that pony. He's a little loco in the coco. Especially with the obligatory caffiene offset. Then he's not only tired, but he also laughs at everything.
-
@widget Sounds like me. Also, I could totally go for something caffeinated right now.
about a year ago from web -
@widget I do that on a regular basis. xD

@widget Yeah, my thought process is just a roll of the dice at this point. I bet that metaphor doesn't even make sense.

@widget Well that seems rather unnecessary and it seems like one of those tools people keep recommending me to stop from hurting other people's feelings. I guess I can try and use them all the time now or something, though. It's not gonna last long, but I'll try I guess.

about a year ago from web-
@redenchilada Omg, you like them too?! <333 xD
about a year ago from web-
@minti ... Is it sad that at one point in time this is legitly something I would have said?
about a year ago from web-
@minti yeah, it kind of is. Not as sad as the fact that that's how @theawesomepinkpony still types.
about a year ago from web
-
-
@minti I will say "lol" ironically, "<3" when I'm in a fruity mood, and I've grown kinda fond of ":c", "c:", and ";~;". Anything else (ESPECIALLY "xD" and "omg") make me kill bunnies.
about a year ago from web-
@redenchilada I need to use the word "fruity" more often.
about a year ago from web -
@redenchilada The only one I refuse to use is "o3o". HOW IS THAT EVEN AN EMOTICON.
about a year ago from web-
@minti Oh yeah, I used that ironically once. It's like the super-fruity impossible-to-take-seriously version of <3 as far as I use it.
about a year ago from web-
@redenchilada Yep that basically describes it. I know of guys who basically use variants of that all the time. T3T
about a year ago from web-
@minti I'm also probably the only one who likes ponies and yet doesn't care for /)^3^(\
about a year ago from web-
@redenchilada I hate people who use that with a passion. Wait, never mind that's mean. I love and tolerate them. >.>
about a year ago from web-
@minti Honestly, I don't dislike _too_ many smilies. You won't catch me using most kinds outside of very specific contexts, though.
