  1. Over here things are easier because delivery guys have a set salary and don't depend o tips, so tips are rare but don't require any sort of paperwork

      1. @mrmattimation Waiters do get tips as a custom here.

    2. @nerthos See, that's how I think it should be. Restaurant workers should make a normal wage and not require tips, and tipping should be a thing you only do if the service is actually exceptionally good.

      1. @zazie I'm used to that being the case, so it always weirds me out how over there it's different

    3. @darkw00d I'm not saying tipping shouldn't be a thing, just that it shouldn't be required. Tips should go to people who are exceptionally good at their job, it shouldn't just be an automatic assumed thing.

      1. @zazie But, then, people wouldn't get money? I mean, we assume tips to be paid if people do their jobs, not when what ever. And, if they do it better, they get more it seems. I hope that is the case otehr wise I have no point.

        1. @metaltao Right now people tip because they feel like they have to because waiters and waitresses make well under minimum wage. Tipping should be done as a reward for good service, not out of pity.

          1. @zazie Is this true? My parents have taught me to tip generously to good people, and next to none for those who are bad.

            1. @metaltao In Washington state, the minimum wage for waiters and waitresses is $2.13. The normal minimum wage is 9.47. Waiters wages are taxed with the assumption that they make at least 7.25 an hour with tips. If they don't make any tips, they can wind up making less than 1.50 after taxes.

              1. @zazie I can make up to $15 an hour if I get lucky and I'm called for a really easy job, and I have currency exchange against me. That's not even worth working for.

                1. @nerthos That's why waiters hate their jobs so much, and why they often due really poorly at their job. It isn't worth it.
