  1. One of the issues with Breaking Bad was the lack of humour past season... like, 2 or 3?

    1. @tiffany Yeah but by that point the drama got sooooooo good since all the buildup from earlier episodes started finally crashing down. Gus was such an insane villain.

      1. @northernnarwhal Gus was outstanding. Season 4 was genuinely emotionally exhilarating and exhausting.

        1. @tiffany That season 4 finale is one of the best episodes of any show I've ever seen. "Was this you? What happened?" "I won" <-gave me chills

          1. @northernnarwhal The bit that stuck out for me was "I will kill your wife. I will kill your son. I will kill your infant daughter." That's what really made me begin to actively want Gus dead. What actually gave me chills was Walt's hysteria at the end of Crawl Space. I consider that my favourite scene in the series.

            1. @tiffany I also thought the directing in the sequence after Hector's wheelchair exploded to be absolutely brilliant. When Gus walks out and we see the half of him that isn't affected by the blast, we think for a few seconds that he actually somehow survived. This works excellently in tandem with the way Gus has been characterized as this unstoppable force throughout pretty much all of his run as a villain, and that scene symbolizes that aspect of his character perfectly before completely shattering that notion with his completely destroyed other side. He even fixes his tie before dramtically collapsing, as if to add a final layer of his perfectionist personality to the mix in that scene. Hell, even the way his face was split down the middle represents how he, in life, was a split person going between the cold collected businessman and psychotic madman. Everything about that scene was just so perfectly executed, I love it.

              1. @northernnarwhal Probably the largest reaction that show got out of me until the end of the series.

                1. @awl Yeah, I'm a real sucker for strong yet subtle visual storytelling and that whole scene was just perfect.

              2. @northernnarwhal The directing was amazing. It feels like every element of every scene has some significance. It's like the reverse of when your English teacher makes super farfetched inferences about literature or something, in that the team genuinely did put so much badass symbolism and mise-en-scene in the series that I could rewatch it time and time again and still be blown away.

                1. @tiffany Yeah, there are a plethora of scenes throughout the series that I found incredibly evocative from a visual perspective alone. Genuinely some of the best mise en scene I've mise en seen.
