  1. So in other news, I noticed one of the bulbs in the spare bedroom was visibly dimmer than the others and managed to capture this shot solely using careful angling. http://rainbowdash.net/attachment/823587

    1. @northernnarwhal Light glare can be such a fun thing to take a shot of can't it?

      1. @awlditzy Yeah, not to mention direct lateral framing can result in some really heavy shadows.

        1. @northernnarwhal Oh yes, some of my most favourite pictures are of a split like that between dark and light.

          1. @awlditzy Me too, I've always found clever lighting to bring out evocative subject frameworks. It's no wonder I like the visual direction in Lain so much http://i.imgur.com/kUlg3pi.jpg

            1. @northernnarwhal Same here and also, for many other reasons. I should get back to the other recommendations you and Coutz had given me a while back.

              1. @awlditzy What would be next on your list? (Also yeah, Lain aligns with all of my critical biases really smoothly)

                1. @northernnarwhal On the actual list is Kids on the Slope. I had started 2nd gig of Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone Complex yesterday so I might have a bit of time to go before that.

                  1. @awlditzy Kids on the Slope will do you well. You really can't go wrong with a Shinichirō Watanabe show (I know a lot of people had some serious issues with Terror in Resonance, but for what it's worth I thought that show still articulated its themes really well and looked damn good in the process).

                    1. @northernnarwhal You two have yet to have recommended to me, something I didn't like, so there is no doubt of that.

                      1. @awlditzy I've just been watching anime seasonally as of late, though the summer season looks kind of dry aside from the second season of Gatchaman Crowds which will be airing so I think I'll use that time to catch up on some shows in my backlog.

                        1. @northernnarwhal I just pick stuff up on the fly, such as books. Decided to read through everything I could of Cormac McCarthy because of being so impressed with No Country for Old Men.

                          1. @awlditzy That's basically what I did with McCarthy except it was because of The Road

                            1. @riley Ha, and that's the one I picked up today.

                          2. @awlditzy I tend to watch anime if I hear its good, like now I'm watching Beelzebub. When it comes to reading I just read Darren Shan or what ever the Warriors books i haven't read.

                          3. @awlditzy Cormac McCarthy is fabulous. Defnitely give Blood Meridian a read if you can (also Riley already mentioned The Road, which is a gorgeous novel)

                          4. @awlditzy I sort of go between picking media up on the fly/on impulse and using a backlog of works I want to go through but haven't yet.

                            1. @northernnarwhal The library we have here is quite small and a lot of the books I mean to pick up just are not there, and have to order them. However, I cannot leave there empty handed and just pick something up either that I know, or have heard of from the grape vine.

                              1. @awlditzy I have a pretty large list of written works (some older than others) that I'd like to get through so usually I'll just get through one of those when I'm in the mood to read, otherwise if I want to wildcard it I'll browse a local bookstore until something piques my interest.

Friday, 29-May-15 03:37:15 UTC from web
                                1. @northernnarwhal Is funny because I don't generally think of mood when reading, at least not when picking up a book.

                                  1. @awlditzy Well I guess what I meant by that was that my media consumption habits aren't rigidly defined, so the notion of engaging with any media (be it a book, television series, etc) is more of an impromptu choice than anything else. Obviously I'll also be prone to consuming different styles or genres of media depending on whatever unplanned disposition I might be stricken with at that moment, but I usually also have enough pieces of media I've been planning to get through anyway that I can placate those whims effectively.

                                    1. @northernnarwhal Well of course, as your seeming vast knowledge about media of all sorts, in a sort of making a broad stroke with your consumption of it, I would guess nothing different.

                                      1. @awlditzy I'm at an age where my maturing preferences and my work conditions align really organically for me to be able to absorb incredible amounts of media in efficient amounts of time, so along with greater exposure to more media there's also just greater consumption.

                                          1. @awlditzy Oh, well thank you! Funny enough, lots of my vocabulary and vernacular comes from my media consumption, as if it's a sort of virtuous cycle of prose.
