@awl She's used to hearing it as her grandparents use it a lot, and an understand quite a bit, but can't speak it. Much like how I am with Portuguese.

@nerthos Long as you enunciate well enough it never seems to be a problem. Even with my terrible accent coming back to this country people understood me well because I took the time to enunciate and otherwise explain my intent.

@northernnarwhal My brother had this teacher who was a volunteer at some drug rehab farm institute or something, and met a guy who according to her abused marijuana so much he started having trouble speaking and everyone would laugh.

@nerthos Oh man, I've known people where that's happened. They'll just start speaking and slur absolutely everything until they're just mumbling, it's really funny but also a little sad.

@northernnarwhal She didn't slur, but I wasn't interested in learning a language to go to the country where it's spoken, which was apparently what she was aiming for. I wanted to learn it for purely academic reasons.

@bobo I was far from a nerd. It's just that I always considered drugs a less than respectable habit. Didn't have any issues with other stuff like fights and SPORTS

@bobo I was the weird highly opinionated, anticuated guy who was always top of the class and talked with the teachers for fun, but often got in fights or other stuff that was against the rules. Sort of a violent prodigy.

@awl Oh, I tend to do that a lot. I also have a habit of explaining words when I don't know the word itself, so I give a detailed description of the meaning instead.

@nerthos That's part of my learning more extensive vocabulary, by doing the same. Rather than look up words why not learn by speaking with the natives.

@nerthos One day I have to go to Catalunya and Turkey to really learn those languages. Still haven't picked a dialect of Turkish which to mimic.

@nerthos Well with my mixup of words sometimes I kind of have that with everything I speak, but not so much with word choice as forgetful of words.
