hello all
Saturday, 26-Sep-15 02:36:22 UTC from web-
@kirurakiru hey there!
-
@kirurakiru hey
-
@kirurakiru Hi.
-
@northernnarwhal just got back from the field for 3 days and im exhausted beyond belief
-
@bobo hola
-
@m14brony how are you?
-
@kirurakiru ay hello
-
@kirurakiru Damn, sounds pretty tiring. I've just been rotating between school and work lately.
-
@northernnarwhal shot 1300 rounds in 3 days, i shoot artillery.
-
@awlelwa hola
-
@kirurakiru Man, that's a lot of rounds. I don't even think I've held a gun before!
-
@kirurakiru Not too bad. My work day was longer than expected due to encountering an HVAC unit void of refrigerant (due to a leak), but it added to the overtime I got today. :)
-
@kirurakiru I have only been shooting small arms.
-
@kirurakiru dude what size guns if I may ask?
-
@awlelwa 105 mm well those are the rounds, i'll send you a video of what i do...https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UN84r_4GTdQ
-
@m14brony where do you work at?
-
@northernnarwhal it;s not a held weapon its a cannon. here's a video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UN84r_4GTdQ
-
@kirurakiru I work as an HVAC service technician for a mechanical contractor.
-
@kirurakiru Oh wow, that's huge. Must get pretty loud though, eh?
-
@m14brony what's a hvac?
-
@kirurakiru Ah yes the trusty howitzer. How deaf did you get today?
-
@northernnarwhal got hearing protection for that lol
-
@kirurakiru Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC). It is also sometimes referred to HVAC/R (Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration). It's a skilled trade.
-
@awlelwa it's very loud, good thing that i have hearing protection. haha
-
@m14brony ohh i got you. that's cool. i thought you were in the military for some reason.
-
@kirurakiru I figured as much. A cannon like that could easily exceed 170 decibels, which can cause immediate noise-induced pain and permanent ear damage.
-
@northernnarwhal most definitely thus why we wear hearing protecting.
-
@m14brony I've actually worked a bit with some HVAC guys we have on retainer. Real impressive work they do, way over my head
-
@kirurakiru I don't have any military experience, but I am an avid shooter and collector of firearms. :)
-
@m14brony your username says it all lol. what firearms do you own?
-
@zazzle It is nice that I got my foot in the door in the HVAC field, as while I have been using what I have learned in college, I have also encountered some things I never saw in school. I look forward to expanding on my knowledge over the coming decades. :)
-
@kirurakiru Quite a few. :D
-
@m14brony funny how that works out. It's like you can never really know everything. We have a guy whose been an electrician for 20 years and is still learning new stuff all the time
-
@m14brony like....?
-
@kirurakiru I've started wearing hearing protection more often while drumming to help keep my hearing in check, if I go deaf my future job prospects will be awfully slim.
-
@zazzle Indeed. The HVAC industry has been changing due to the phase out of CFC/HCFC refrigerants (ozone depleting), increasing use of control boards and automated systems, etc.
-
@m14brony Kind of like in automotive R134A is on its way out, as well as heavy weight motor oils.
-
@northernnarwhal very true, didnt know that you played an instrument.
-
@m14brony I mean the whole DEVap trend has probably been pretty taxing I'd imagine. Certainly been a big deal for us.
-
@kirurakiru Yeah, I'm a musician whose main instrument is the drums, though I also play piano and am learning guitar
-
@northernnarwhal that's pretty neat, you could make your own band lol
-
@kirurakiru Potentially, yeah! When I'm done my schooling I'd technically be able to handle production too, given I had the money for studio time or to buy my own gear.
-
@northernnarwhal would you and or be willing to do that someday?
-
@zazzle Admittedly, I haven't encountered DEVap technology in the field. Then again, I am new to the field as well.
-
@kirurakiru Eh, I'm sure I'll be writing and playing music at least as a hobby in the future, though I wouldn't say it's a definite career plan. I'm more likely going to be freelancing with audio mixing/mastering and post-production.
-
@northernnarwhal right you did tell me about this before if i remember right.
-
@awlelwa I wasn't aware of R-134a being on its way out in automotive, but it doesn't surprise me. I have no idea of its true, but a head HVAC technician once told me that R-404A (commonly used in supermarkets) may be on its way out in the not-too-distant future.
-
@kirurakiru yeah but I don't expect people to necessarily remember so it's cool
-
@northernnarwhal fair enough, so what did you do today?
-
@kirurakiru I had school for most of the day, then I got home and made myself some dinner and practiced guitar for a bit before taking a break to read. Recently I've just been watching some anime.
-
@m14brony Fair enough. I don't do installation or repairs or anything but I do sell a lot
-
@northernnarwhal ah what anime? sorry for late reply
-
@kirurakiru Late reply to your late reply as I just got home from work- recently I've just been watching through shows on my backlog since there haven't been a lot of recent anime that I've been interested in watching. Lately I've been watching through Boogiepop Phantom, which is a pretty interesting show. It's incredibly dark and grotesque but also very avant garde in its construction, it's honestly unlike anything I've ever seen before in anime and walks this odd line between non-linear art house and really unnerving horror.
-
@northernnarwhal that's a very interesting name lol
-
@kirurakiru From what I know about the series of light novels that spawned the anime adaptation, the title "Boogiepop" came from the author wanting to reconcile fringe strangeness ("boogie" as in "boogieman/bogeyman") with accessibility ("pop/popular"), hence "Boogiepop". The "Phantom" part just comes from a character in the show.
