  1. MLB 3 is gonna be a hard reset in basically everything except continuity. We're going in a new direction and changing up the tone and intent of the show. Jonathan and I are the only two people from the original voice cast who are still on it, we're re-evaluating all of our scripts, changing our entire production process... hopefully it all worms out,

      1. @l1ghtsword I know I'm going to school for audio engineering which involves sound design

        1. @northernnarwhal Thats awesome dude, I kind of wish I went that direction instead of IT and networking sometimes...

          1. @l1ghtsword Yeah, today's class was all about subtractive synthesis. It's really interesting and a lot of fun.

            1. @northernnarwhal Thats a great base and fundamentally consistent with most forms of audio synthesis. my personal favorite synthesis is FM/subtractive and Wavetable. Additive is cool too, I like thr control of building a sound from the ground up with individual harmonic partials. Why didnt I take sound engineering...

              1. @l1ghtsword Yeah, I like how complex synths can get when you start layering a ton of waveforms on top of each other and using low and high pass filters to remove a ton of frequencies. Synthesis is cool.

                1. @northernnarwhal yeah it is. if things goe my way I want to actually make full tracks soon. not just experiment

                  1. @l1ghtsword Luckily I'm going into audio engineering so there are career opportunities outside of music for stuff like sound design and post-production in television and film.

                            1. @l1ghtsword Yeah, audio engineering is the most feasible reconciliation of what I'm passionate about with what I can pursue as a sustainable career

                                1. @l1ghtsword Keep at it man. Even if it's just as a hobby for fun, keep doing it if it makes you happy. By the way, you still using FL?

Friday, 02-Oct-15 03:34:14 UTC from web
                                  1. @northernnarwhal I am, im too cheap to move to greener pastures.

Friday, 02-Oct-15 03:34:44 UTC from web
                                    1. @l1ghtsword Well I mean FL isn't a bad DAW by any margin (there really aren't "bad" DAWs, just more advanced ones) and you can certainly produce professional sounding tracks on FL, but lately I've been using Reason for lots of electronic tracks and Pro Tools for mixing and the grass is way greener on the other side of the fence. Amazing software. Modular synths are super cool though and I'd love to get one, I've played around on old Moogs before and some of those classic 80s sounding sines are gorgeous. Arturia make some great products, I'm really tempted to get a Key 88, there are a ton of encoders and faders that give you so many options for levels and automation.

                                      1. @northernnarwhal if you can afford it, do it. they are CRAZY fun to fiddle with. and yeah i know that, i am WELL aware of some of FL's design limitations however and am looking to move forward

                                        1. @l1ghtsword I mean Harmor's kinda crappy but I've gotten some really great sounding synths out of Toxic Biohazard and Sytrus

Friday, 02-Oct-15 03:44:58 UTC from web
                                          1. @northernnarwhal Really? i actually like harmour. Though that may just be additive synthesis in general.

                                            1. @l1ghtsword Yeah I prefer subtractive synthesis so TB is way more up my alley, along with stuff like Subtractor and Thor in Reason.

                                  2. @northernnarwhal Though i dont always use a DAW, massive can work stand alone and i like some other modular style stand alone synths

              1. @l1ghtsword I found the college work in that field stressful in itself, so I could only imagine it being even worse in the workplace. After a number of years (I shied away from studying to be an attorney or life scientist of some sort due to the high investment and questionable job prospects), I finally "bit the bullet" and returned to learn the HVAC trade (I got a job in this trade a couple of months ago).
