  1. It'd be like the PS2 that had everything from light pistols to driving wheels to arcade controllers.

    1. @skellythos The PS2 absolutely destroyed the market of its generation, it wasn't even discontinued until roughly 13 years after they first started being sold

      1. @northernnarwhal I'm pretty sure that the last PS2 game literally came out THIS year

        1. @mrmattimation No, the last game to be released for the PS2 was PES Soccer 2014 which came out late 2013

          1. @northernnarwhal Sorry, my mistake. A Final Fantasy XI addon was released this year.

            1. @mrmattimation Ah, that's true. Though with that in mind, the game's servers on the console versions will be shut down in 2016.

          2. @northernnarwhal Nowadays you can still get yearly PS2 PES games made by third parties by porting the teams and lineups from the newer ones to the engine of the last official release.

            1. @skellythos The NASCAR games recently started doing something that I like. Instead of releasing a yearly installment, they just update NASCAR '14 every year with new features and an updated driver list.

              1. @mrmattimation That's actually pretty nice. If your engine is still up to moden standards, the best thing you can do is release DLC packs with the updated lists.

      2. @northernnarwhal Because they did it right. Offering amazing graphics for the era, an incredible number of games of all genres, and all kinds of peripherics. Even though it did came at the cost of the company losing money until they released the second model due to manufacturing costs being higher than market price.

        1. @skellythos Sony always posts their first version of a console at a loss

Sunday, 08-Nov-15 02:42:04 UTC from web
        2. @skellythos That second part is especially true, the PS2 had a MASSIVE library with a ton of third party support so it gained a ton of widespread appeal, and that snowballed over its lifespan which helped it dominate the market.

        3. @skellythos The PS2 actually had the worst graphical capabilities of its generation tho

          1. @redenchilada Even worse than the Gamecube?

            1. @northernnarwhal Yeah, the Gramecube had better specs than the PS2.

              1. @bobo I know I'd consider the original Xbox the strongest of the bunch but I was never sure between the PS2 and Gamecube

                  1. @northernnarwhal Funnily enough it supports those multitap things to expand to 4 controllers.

          2. @redenchilada As far as I remember it came out quite early though. I know that the games looked amazing back in 2001-2002

          3. @redenchilada It's graphics were better than those of the Dreamcast. Granted, the Dreamcast didn't last very long.

            1. @m14brony Oh yeah, the Dreamcast was 6th-gen too. I keep forgetting about that.
