@tiffany woah nice Peter Parker drawing I love spiderguy
-
-
@northernnarwhal Spiderguy™ is my fave superguy
-
@flaxx Hell yeah I love Marble Comics
-
@northernnarwhal CD has most of my faves though like Hatman and Superfella
-
@flaxx They also published one of my favourite comics: Mr. Manhatten and the Watchguys!
-
@northernnarwhal Did you see the new Mildinconveniencepuddle movie
-
@flaxx I have not! But I might catch it with some friends, they tend to enjoy superguy films.
-
@northernnarwhal I just looked it up and apparently they start showing it in cinema today over here so no wonder I haven't seen it yet
-
@flaxx Joking aside I'm honestly in no rush to see Deadpool, I'm not really a fan of the comics and will probably only end up checking out the film if some friends drag me along.
-
@northernnarwhal I barely watch movies ever and don't like cinemas because of reasons so if anything, I'll watch it at home. Don't really care much for superhero movies anyway.
-
@flaxx I really like "superheroes" as a storytelling vehicle but tend to feel really lukewarm or negative on lots of popular superhero stories and films. I actually still quite like going to the cinema, but the comfort and convenience of home is hard to beat.
-
@northernnarwhal Cinema is a cool experience but it's such a hassle. And yeah, superheroes are cool and all and I don't mind them but it's not something I really care for all too much. Do have a soft spot for Spider-Man because as a kid I played a bunch of old PS1 Spider-Man games and it was great
-
@flaxx you mean this game? http://rainbowdash.net/attachment/832628
-
@flaxx I don't mind the hassle if only because I like to be able to get out of the house to do stuff from time to time and if I'm going with friends it gives us an excuse to hang out. As far as superheroes go, my favourite comic is probably Watchmen, but in terms of films my favourite in the genre is probably still Hellboy 2. I also like some superhero oriented anime, notably Gatchaman Crowds and Concrete Revolutio.
-
@mushi yes and it is my favourite thing, thank you. legit the coolest game I'd played at that age
-
@flaxx that game was so much fun.
I remember how much it bothered me that when we played with a different costume they'd change it to the default costume for the cutscenes -
@northernnarwhal To be honest with you I know next to nothing about Watchmen. Just looked it up to avoid looking dumb and I thought correctly that the Rorschach guy is there (no idea what his powers are or anything), but other than that I know nothing. I know more about Hellboy I guess but I'm not even sure I've seen any of the movies or at least it was a very long time ago. As for reading comics I've read like two Spider-Man comics as a kid and that's pretty much it.
-
@mushi Oh yeah, the different suits were cool. Man, that game was awesome. Wasn't there actually two games? I know in one there was like Electro or something and in the other was Doctor Octopus and also Venom was in there somewhere. I barely remember but those games were a bloody blast. I should honestly just go emulate them
-
@flaxx hm, i only remember the one with venon, doc. octopus and carnage (and the carnage octopus thing in the end)
-
@mushi I'm pretty sure there were two and the other one had like Electro and Sandman and some alligator scientist or something.
-
@flaxx Rorshach actually doesn't really have much of what could be technically considered an actual superpower, ultimately he's just a masked vigilante with strong beliefs that can figure really well. But what makes Watchmen interesting is that it's more interested in the specific social implications of superheroes as cultural figures, and utilizes the genre's specific storytelling beats to create a rich and multifaceted narrative about justice and morality. So characters exist as arbiters of Big Decisions and don't spend as much time hitting things hard with special powers so much as they pull apart heroism from its foundation. It's a really neat comic.
-
@flaxx hm, i dont think i've seen that one
-
@northernnarwhal *fight really well
-
@mushi https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spider-Man_2:_Enter_Electro It was apparently called Spider-Man 2: Enter Electro. So yeah, I played both of those but I mean Doc Ock and Venom and Carnage are way cooler than Electro, he was kind of a whimp
-
@flaxx FFFFFLLLLLAAAAAXXXXXXXXXX!!!!!
-
@flaxx hm, if it is simmilar to the other one i should try it someday
-
@northernnarwhal Huh, that does sound much cooler than "hi guys so yeah I sorta got superhuman powers and am impervious to p much everything time to stop some robbers"
-
@scribus SSSSSCCCRRRRIIIIIBBBUUUUUUSSSSS!!!!!!!
-
@mushi You definitely should! Iirc it's basically the same game same engine and all but different plot and characters and stuff
-
@flaxx actually, when i played the first game i didnt know english, so i should play it again to actually know what was going one :v
-
@mushi It is possible that I was kind of in the same spot. At least I wasn't as proficient as I am now. I've done that with other games, most notably Crash Bandicoot 3 and I watched the intro and was like... okay I recognize everything he says and the way he says it but now it's actually like... words that mean anything. Really neat tbh
-
@flaxx Yeah, Watchmen catalogs how the classic superhero tale is fundamentally flawed, and grapples with wider compelling sociopolitical issues
-
@northernnarwhal I'll keep an eye out if I ever have a chance to partake in any of that stuff then, because that does sound interesting
-
@flaxx I also finiched crash 3 without having any idea what was going on the game, but i dont think crash's plot waould be too much relevant
-
@mushi Very true. I love that game so much. Back when I played it the most, our memory card was borked and/or full so for a while I'd come home from school and get right on trying to beat it before bed time. Actually managed a few times but it was bloody hard. I remember getting stuck on the N. Gin guy with the space robot and stuff, he was the boss in world 4 I think. I still remember the sound effects from your shots hitting his weak points
-
@flaxx Yeah, lemme know if you end up checking out the comic
-
@flaxx fortunatelly i had 2 momory cards back then so i always had space to save the games . I remember my sister, my friends and I tryign to figure out whether those those fruits where peaches or mangoes. But only idiots think those are peaches because they were clearly more simillar to mangoes
-
@northernnarwhal Will do though I don't even really know where to read comics
-
@mushi I think we just called them apples because I'm not sure we were aware that mangoes existed or at least not what they looked like. And I'm pretty sure we had two memory cards too but for some reason we couldn't use them. Maybe one was borked and the other was like at my dad's house or something while I had the PS at my mum's. Still, fun memories. For some reason I always had trouble with Tiny Tiger, the first boss but then when I replayed the game like a year ago he was so bloody easy it was embarrassing
-
@flaxx Breaking memory cards is difficult, actually i was using my ps1 memory card some days ago (running on a ps2, though, the ps1 itself is gone). Crash bosses are nice, i remember liking the fight against dingogile on crash 3
-
@flaxx I just own a physical copy of the comic, but you could probably find it online.
-
@mushi Dingodile had the most satisfying sound effects when he broke his crystals. That was a fun boss fight because it was/seemed sorta tricky and I always felt so cool because I could pull it off fairly easily but it's also possible that it was just plain easy
-
@flaxx it was pretty easy, but the fight itself was pretty clever
-
@mushi Yeah, it was. Man, those games were so good. Pretty sure our 2 didn't work properly so it'd crash (heh) or freeze or something when you went to world 2 which sorta sucked. So I mostly played 3 which was really great anyway
-
@flaxx i remember beathing crash 2, but i have no memory of that game
-
@mushi Hm... Thinking about it, world 2 probably worked. But one of the worlds broke the game at least. It was fun, I remember you got to ride the little polar bear cub and stuff.
