  1. All the work I did today: http://pny.lv/08hse
A lot of it is unfinished in terms of timing or needing additional frames. Just wanted a bit of critique. If anyone is very interested I can upload the animatic tomorrow.

    1. @scoot Ignoring the stuff you mentioned in your post, one thing that stood out to me was how everything was stylistically flat (I mean this in the literal sense, not figurative) except for the bucket, where there was some depth to it. Is that significant, or just a coincidence?

      1. @northernnarwhal This is deliberate, the bucket doesn't read well if it's completely flat, so I had to give it depth. Otherwise everything will be flat where possible, yeah.

        1. @scoot Ah, that's understandable. In which case, the only critique I can think of at the moment would be that it would probably make more visual sense if this shot http://i.imgur.com/UBAZeAC.png had some kind of signifier of the main character in the house, so when you cut to this shot afterwards http://i.imgur.com/YgzQlJW.png the viewer isn't wondering where they came from.

          1. @northernnarwhal He'll be coming out of the inside of the house later, I just have to animate him doing it. I agree with that though, it would read a bit better that way. The main issue that has been plaguing me was that his walk never looked natural, so most of my effort has been on getting those keyframes right. Since you had no problem with that I'll assume it works now.

            1. @scoot Yeah, the walk animation itself looks fine to me (though I imagine getting it to work with the flat motif must've been challenging initially). Keep up the good work!

              1. @northernnarwhal It's taken me about 2 weeks to get it looking natural, hence my break down earlier. Glad it's finally working.

                1. @scoot How much time do you have to finish it?

                  1. @northernnarwhal It needs to be completely done by May. I'm aiming to have the actual animation done by April at the latest, then I have a month of editing and clean up.

                    1. @scoot How long does the final animation have to be?

                      1. @northernnarwhal 3 minutes.

                        1. @scoot Oh wow, that's a lot. I have confidence in you though, you seem to be doing well so far.

                          1. @northernnarwhal I should be much further ahead tbh. I've been pretty much a depressed wreck for a while and haven't been able to work on my film. If my estimates are correct and I don't slack off it'll be done by the end of March or so though.

                            1. @scoot I know that feeling, I have a big audio post-production assignment due at the end of my semester and I've been putting it off a ton because I haven't worked up the motivation to start it. I'd definitely like to see your film when it's finished too, especially since I enjoyed your last one.

                              1. @northernnarwhal Yeah, I figured I wasn't the only one who has this problem. My motivation levels have been extremely low lately. I can't wait to graduate, have a break, then feel really motivated to actually make stuff. I'll post it on here when it's done, don't worry.

                                1. @scoot I'm likely gonna be doing some more schooling after I graduate where I'm currently attending, though I'm not gonna drop out because it'll damage my credit.

                                  1. @northernnarwhal Good luck with that, although if your course is anything like mine you'll be super exhausted by the end of it.

                                    1. @scoot Also thanks for the luck, I'll need it.

    2. @scoot When he reaches for the bucket, that movement's really slow, which I know is deliberate, BUT, the abundance of frames makes the slowness seem a little out of place and odd-looking. I know you've voiced displeasure with animating on threes in the past, but I think for that particular movement it would make sense. The two keys should remain in the same positions if possible, but I think there don't need to be as many frames in the inbetween.

      1. @mrmattimation OK I'll bear that in mind, it is a little slow, a lot of my problems do involve timing, which I'll be sorting out later. Thanks though
