i never played with nerfs, my friends and I played throwing rocks at each other
Sunday, 28-Feb-16 22:50:28 UTC from web-
@mushi ... Hardcore ! ... the "modern mom" as I know it would scold us for HOURS for even falling off the swing or something "You bruised yourself !!!"
These days all playgrounds have more padding than a rubber-factory because of that, and probably excessive whining at city hall about bruises.
I never understood what is so bad about bruises anyway.Sunday, 28-Feb-16 22:54:09 UTC from web-
@critialcloudkicker My firends and i were real hardcore. One of our favorite games was called "killing". Basically one of us would climb up a slide, then throw a clothes-peg away and the others had to brig it to the guy on the slide and it always involved a lot of fighting. then whoever brought the clothes peg to the guy on the slide would throw it for the others.
It was funSunday, 28-Feb-16 22:58:58 UTC from web-
@mushi ... That makes me kinda wish I was there when I was a kid... Dangit...
Sunday, 28-Feb-16 23:07:42 UTC from web-
@critialcloudkicker also, we used to fake bicycles accidents to get other people worried and since this city was nearly empity when we moved here we also played hide and seek in the whole city hiding on the empity houses and stuff

@mushi And that is how your downspiraling into nerddom, cartoons, books, science, and eventually colourfull equines began ?

@critialcloudkicker Someone's kid probably got a rare, more serious injury; and the family probably got a lawyer involved.
Sunday, 28-Feb-16 22:59:32 UTC from web-
@m14brony You're thinking WAAAY to American. Whenever a kid gets injured on a city-hall constructed playground ( think like, shoulder>arm socket depopping ) in Europe, noone is actually thinking "hey lets sue City Hall", they are going to shout from some rooftops, probably get the national TV involved or at least local news, and city-hall will come forward assisting financially ( if that is even needed due to universal healthcare systems ) and swear to make the current playground a safer playground.
But that kid was probably doing something stupid to begin with and now there is rubber padding everywhere. Mothers freak out when someone scrapes their knee this day and age. Also, back when I was growing up it was claimed that stuff like that helped build a strong immunity to stuff. Whatever happened to that anyway ?Sunday, 28-Feb-16 23:13:00 UTC from web-
@critialcloudkicker Bubble wrap mentality is what happened. One of the worst things of this century.
Sunday, 28-Feb-16 23:22:08 UTC from web-
@nerthos "bubble wrap mentality". I like that phraising, is that a real thing or just a nerthos-spin on things ?
Sunday, 28-Feb-16 23:23:09 UTC from web-
@critialcloudkicker It's what I call it myself. Padding on playgrounds, excessive worry over not "offending" anyone, all those things. A paranoic take on preventing any sort of damage, even the silly minor damages like a bruised knee or hurt ego. In turn, preventing people from getting actually strong and ready to deal with the real world.
Sunday, 28-Feb-16 23:25:42 UTC from web-
@nerthos If you are talking about not being able to say "But I do not trust muslims" without being worried about upsetting muslims... Or not being able to say "I am not saying Mexicans are rappist directly, but I am saying that someone is doing the rapping". I think that Carly Fiorina and Donald Trump ruined that bubble for me. That however does NOT mean I agree with the republicans, but there are some things we can probably learn from all 16 ( 16 ? really ) people who had their own stand at the republican or democratic debates. Just some, ehmm, nuance and tactile would be welcome
Sunday, 28-Feb-16 23:39:19 UTC from web-
@critialcloudkicker I'll be honest with you and tell you that I know nothing at all about the topic other than trump memes. I only look at international and national politics, I don't pay much attention to inside affairs of other countries.
Sunday, 28-Feb-16 23:40:56 UTC from web-
@nerthos I, ehmm, would actually respect you a little more for saying that. I just want to know&learn stuff about America and their customs and being able to tell my grandchildren ( or someone elses grandchildren more likely ) a story about how someone put a curse on humpty dumpty blah blah blah, windeggs, blah blah blah, plastic cirgury to change it's looks, blah blah blah, became president, ruined the country and broke the curse... Or something like that.
Yes I want to be the funny kind of old man.Sunday, 28-Feb-16 23:45:13 UTC from web

@nerthos what I personally hate the most about this is the "everyone is a winner" bullkiwi, especially when they pull that Fluffle Puff last minute, a kid I babysat had a school arts & crafts competition, spent a whole month making a model of the school, mango was beautiful, it even had moss mimicking the grass on the yard, I went to the show, there were 2 volcanoes, his model and a solar-system, those were the noteworthy ones out of 15 kid's works, the rest was clearly last-minute crap, I'm talking crayon drawings framed by glued macaroni;
At the end the "teacher" said "Oh these are all so good... you know what... EVERYONE'S A WINNER"
Potato Knishes said it with the greatest bananaing smile on her stupid sow face, like she just announced free ice-cream for life.
kid got the same reward as the batcaveing loser that made a drawing of him and dad and covered that crap with mac and dead horse. and boy was he bananaed.Sunday, 28-Feb-16 23:41:52 UTC from web-
@zennx See, that's a perfect example of why it is so bad. That kid put real effort into it and showed some real talent and promise, just to be ignored so others aren't hurt. The only thing you can get from doing that is discouraging the ones that can get anything good done from trying at all, and giving the ones who are devoid of ability in the are a sense of entitlement and the idea that they're good at it, instead of showing them they aren't so they either learn or look for a field they're good at.

@nerthos I like that term and I'm gonna start using it now

@razzleberry Good man.
Sunday, 28-Feb-16 23:31:47 UTC from web-
@nerthos I got hurt enough growing up that if I got hit by a car tomorrow I'd be back on me feet within a week if I wasn't dead or paralyzed
Sunday, 28-Feb-16 23:33:55 UTC from web-
@razzleberry And that's exactly what I mean. I've rammed a concrete post, got an iron bar stuck on a leg, fell on my jaw, fell from a tree hitting a branch in the way down, almost got sucked by the sea, and got into hundreds of fights; been insulted and insulted others, been rejected from groups and acted as a leader to others. None of it did anything to me in the long term other than make me more resistant. Keeping people from such things only serves to make them extremely sensitive to things that shouldn't affect them.
Sunday, 28-Feb-16 23:37:29 UTC from web-
@nerthos yeah. I don't support violence against children by any means, but I think young people should be allowed to make dumb mistakes and learn lessons while their bodies are still young enough to recover easily
Sunday, 28-Feb-16 23:39:54 UTC from web-
@razzleberry Oh, of course. Of course we have to keep adults from beating up children (with the exception of underage criminals of course, those should be treated like any other criminal), but we should let young people get a few beatings due to their own actions so they learn both how to handle a beating, and how to avoid getting one in the first place.

@nerthos @razzleberry
I was taught "Sticks and stones can break my, but words can never hurt me."
That stupid rhyme has been my armor in countless situations. The whole "Words have power." is a cop out. Words can connect to power but only if you let them.

@critialcloudkicker Hm. No lawsuits, but still morbid paranoia and lots of public screaming and such.
Monday, 29-Feb-16 00:09:05 UTC from web-
@m14brony I could go outside right now wearing a frankenstein's monster mask and shout at every animal and pet every human I see for just over 20 minutes and probably get the same ammount of media attention in this shtty excuse for a village and probably get enough free drug samples for depression, anti neurotics, and probably at least 5 different flavours of narcoleptic drugs... Point is... it involves loads of public screaming, morbid paranoia, no lawsuits... it does not take a whole lot to get on every news station for up to 3 days in these parts... But I no doubt do not have the stamina compared to children's ability to get hurt and mommies screaming. That is for sure.
Monday, 29-Feb-16 00:27:34 UTC from web-
@critialcloudkicker That's odd. Excessive litigation isn't always required to get such paranoia to spread.

@critialcloudkicker my mom made us go out and "climb a tree, punch each other, eat rocks, I don't care, just do something new, and bring results, in writing, spoken, or in blood"
