@vriska don't tell @mrmattimation

@vriska Regardless of how bad it is, it NEEDS to be financially successful so movie companies to gain more confidence in adult-oriented animated films.

@mrmattimation @vriska No, it doesn't. Adult oriented animation is fine. This is... this is a god damn travesty. This is the worst film theoretically possible and it making any money is a crime against art. Adult animation is one thing, but racial stereotypes and a literal 3 minute long food orgy is not okay. Not Okay. This is BAd. Very Bad
-
@vriska I actually hope that Sausage Party makes a whole BUTTLOAD of money. It would mean nothing but good things for the film industry. Producers will be more willing to fund animated movies not necessarily geared towards families, which is basically all the animated film industry is right now.

@mrmattimation @vriska @vriska by that logic, Pacific Rim was only made because the Transformers movies got a lot of money
and Pacific Rim's sequel is in a questionable state due to its poor reception-
@why ...uh, except, no, that's not the same at all?

@mrmattimation @why you proposed "if [adult animation] does well then more [adult animation] will be taken seriously and the industry will fund [adult animation]" to which i provided the example "when [robot action movie] does well, other [robot action movie]s still dont do well"
-
@why Yeah, but... Dude, you think Michael Bay's Transformers movies AT ALL contributed to the company's faith in Pacific Rim? Come on, dude. Pacific Rim would have been made even without Michael Bay's crappy movies coming before it.

@mrmattimation @why "when its robot action movies they would be made anyways, but when its adult animation we NEED sausage party"
sounds a bit like https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/No_true_Scotsman-
@why What the hell are you talking about?
Thursday, 17-Mar-16 03:02:47 UTC from web-
@mrmattimation @why I made a pretty fair example and you said no because... no
-
@why No. I didn't. You're twisting words again. Mech movies already had somewhat of a following before Transformers. Animated films at the moment are ALL family oriented. The last really well-known adult animated film was South Park in 1999, and the last one before that was Fritz the Cat in the 70s.

@mrmattimation @why @why the simpsons movie, 2007
-
@vriska Ah, I knew you'd bring that up. Not an adult-oriented film, at least not the same as Fritz or South Park. Adults could certainly appreciate the nuances of the film's humor more but the same could also be said about most Dreamworks pictures.

@vriska @why @mrmattimation Can TV shows count, what about Fish Police (1992) starring John Ritter and Tim Curry
-
@moonman @why @mrmattimation if TV shows count this guy has no argument. applety adult cartoons are all over the goddamn place making money on TV
-
@vriska No, I don't count TV shows. Adult animation is doing very well on TV.
Thursday, 17-Mar-16 03:27:43 UTC from web

-
@moonman No, film based on television does not count. I don't count it because it has a pre-existing established base of supporters to get that movie made.

@mrmattimation What about Eveready Harton in Buried Treasure

@mrmattimation I gotta say, I was bummed how Last Days of Coney Island turned out.

@why In addition, at NO POINT did I say "if this movie does well all movies like it will do well." I said "if this movie does well more like it will be made". You're deliberately twisting my words to make it seem like I think Sausage Party is going to create this wave of crappy food-based animated stoner comedies.
Thursday, 17-Mar-16 02:58:34 UTC from web-
@mrmattimation "More like it will be made" is easy to read as "more crappy food movies"
Thursday, 17-Mar-16 02:59:31 UTC from web -
@mrmattimation @why i dont want to nitpick on words, this would be a boring argument
-
-
@why Also: Pacific Rim was Del Toro's most successful movie to date. I have no idea where you're getting the idea that it wasn't, or how that correlates to Transformers.
Thursday, 17-Mar-16 03:01:16 UTC from web-
@mrmattimation @why define "successful". Is it profit margin? Is it amount of budget? Is it "quality"? Is it the number of awards it gets?
Does any of this even matter?-
@why It made back four times its budget. I'd consider that successful.

@why @mrmattimation sausage party makes transformers look like high art cinema
-
@vriska It's quality doesn't matter. Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg just might revolutionize the industry with their talking food stoner comedy. That's what's important.

@mrmattimation the thought that is a possibility is the most terrifying thing I've ever heard

@why Pacific Rim was a masterpiece and anyone who says otherwise is a very bad person.
