  1. Just how close are we to the Resource Wars happening really?

    1. @awl Honestly, things are no worse now than they were in the 80s. 1991 - around 2008 was sort of a "golden age" of sorts where the western world was feeling invincible because of the fall of communism and whatnot and things are just returning to their natural order since the 2008 market crash..

      1. @mrmattimation well I was thinking of both the EU starting to step back and 'aggressive' displays by China regarding the South Sea seeming... Familiar. Disregarding that the 80s was tense, as was all since the end of WWII, but only for so long can one be tense without a spasm.

        1. @awl I sort of put all of that in the back of my mind, because a) acting all "man everything sucks we're all gonna die of World War III in the year of our lord 2017" doesn't solve, like, anything, it'll just bum me and everyone around me out, and b) as we've seen pretty much every year since 1946, especially in the 60s and 70s, we're really good at getting as close as humanly possible to blowing ourselves up without actually doing it, then waking up and getting ourselves really, really far from that point. The EU will probably dissolve in the next ten years, though, you're right about that one.

          1. @mrmattimation i don't think on it negatively. I think that it will happen because it's kind of a pattern. Although the 'getting close and stepping way back' you bring up may have replaced the pattern of wide-scale wars.

            1. @awl Well yeah, because the last wide-scale war we saw ended in a city-ending bomb being dropped on Japan. Not a single world leader, no matter how corrupt (or stupid) wants to see that happen.

              1. @mrmattimation surely hope not. Even I don't want to see that happen. Most of the time.

so I'll take it as a pick up line
          10/10 for creativity
