  1. I wonder how hard it would be to create some sort of button with an alarm with a delay of 8 hours. The catch ? Making one without using any sort of embedded system.

    1. @critialcloudkicker so, you'd build a clockwork... clock?

      1. @zennx Aww, you take all the fun out of it. I was thinking about making some sort of rolling ball sculpture that would be pretty to watch, and if you'd swap out a random ball for a metal one, a buzzer would buzz when it reaches the end... or something

    2. @critialcloudkicker Mechanical or electronic? A mechanical solution would be an 8-hour "hourglass" that falls down on a scale and it triggers a bell when enough sand is on the scale. An electronic one could be made with a 555 timer IC, a counter, and a buzzer circuit that is triggered when the counter is on the equivalent count of 8 hours. There are plenty other or better solutions that I can't think of at the moment.

      1. @adiwan Well if I wanted it to look boring but effective I could go with a 555 timer, a counter, and a buzzer circuit alone. But if I wanted to do that I would at least want the button to reset the counter everytime I press it and be able to turn it off with just as much ease... Wait now I am being a dumbass because I can just use a rocker-switch to get that in 1 go.

        1. @critialcloudkicker I'd do that very boringly with a micro controller, a button, and a buzzer.

          1. @adiwan Hmmyeah, but I want it to be either really fancy, or really few components. And using any sort of SoC to achieve that is somewhat a nuclear option.

Unless if you want to make an achmed joke.
