  1. I wonder if the Boeing 747 is going to be taken out of service by any airline operating it by end of year; apparently United is. Can't blame them though; 48 years old design has to be expensive to maintain.

    1. @awl I dunno, there are a tonne of parts out there, and a huge number of trained engineers know the planes well.

      1. @ceruleanspark There is that yes, and I mean, airlines still operate DC10s despite having a shaky history. I'd rather not see them out. It'd be the end of an era, like when the Concorde got taken out of major service.

        2. @awl It's funny you should mention DC10s in the same post as Concorde though, given that the major incident that lead to Concorde being retired was caused by pieces falling off a DC10
