        2. @minti The term originally came from "Computer Role Playing Game" and was a friendlier way of saying "Western Role Playing Game". Nowadays you can find this type of game on PCs or consoles, and from western or eastern developers, so the term refers to that style of RPG that revolves around the choices you make as a player (in contrast to the JRPG (also "Console Role Playing Game") style which revolves around following a path that has been set before you).

          1. @toksyuryel JRPGs are pretty much an RPG thats made like an anime. in japan. hense the "J". or, at least thats how i see it.

            1. @techdisk42 The terminology is historical- originally, games in that style were all japanese and all on consoles, whereas games in the free-roaming exploration and owning your own story style were all western and all on PCs. While none of this is true today, the terminology persists to refer to the two distinct styles of RPG video games.

    2. @techdisk42 Action RPG, or an FPS+RPG hybrid, probably comes closest. Adding Project Nevada (Core and Rebalance, at least) drops it more into the FPS territory, but probably still leaves it as that odd hybrid.
