Go on. Why should i play Spiral Knights. Do not mention that it's free :3
Sunday, 05-Aug-12 20:35:27 UTC from web-
@cavatina It plays like Zelda Four Swords Adventure.
Sunday, 05-Aug-12 20:36:23 UTC from web-
@toksyuryel I've never played that for longer than 5 minutes, so that tells me...nothing xD
Sunday, 05-Aug-12 20:36:56 UTC from web-
@cavatina Imagine a four-player Zelda game. Now imagine it's an MMO.
Sunday, 05-Aug-12 20:37:45 UTC from web-
@toksyuryel I've never played much zelda, i'm still on my first game, Ocarina of Time...these descriptions do not help. XD They would maybe come december when i've played the Snes + n64 ones :3

@toksyuryel If it's 4 player how is it massive.
Sunday, 05-Aug-12 20:39:39 UTC from web-
@ceruleanspark Massive persistent world with unlimited number of players - the dungeons ("clockworks") are the only parts limited to a party (which is limited to 4).
Sunday, 05-Aug-12 20:41:33 UTC from web-
@bitshift Okay, a party limit of four in dungeons is kinda poor nowadays.
Sunday, 05-Aug-12 20:42:39 UTC from web-
@hakupony Strong disagreement- 4 seems like the perfect number. Cohesion starts to break down the more players you add.
Sunday, 05-Aug-12 20:45:30 UTC from web -
@hakupony You'd think so, but it actually works out pretty well. Plus they scale with party size, so any party size is fairly viable (soloing is somewhat trickier, since it's possible to get surrounded in more heavily populated rooms, but still perfectly possible).
Sunday, 05-Aug-12 20:46:15 UTC from web-
@bitshift Somebody made a contest with a prize of 1,000 CE for the first person to record themselves successfully soloing Lord Vanaduke in full proto gear.
Sunday, 05-Aug-12 20:47:22 UTC from web -
@bitshift Yes, but if I want to play with a group of ten, it would be awesome if the dungeon difficulty would "just" arrange to that. I didn't want to say that would make it a bad game, but I feel tht if I want to play a game with five friends, the game should let me nowadays.
Sunday, 05-Aug-12 20:50:08 UTC from web-
@hakupony That's a fair point. I would guess that groups that work well together at more than 4 players are less common, though, so I guess I can understand them not wanting to balance it for larger groups - given the dungeons are based on a mix of (fairly simple; think Zelda if you've played them) puzzles and battles, it would take more drastic changes to make it still exciting for large groups.
Sunday, 05-Aug-12 20:56:20 UTC from web-
@bitshift Okay, if you have Zelda-style puzzles, then a player more makes a huge difference...
Sunday, 05-Aug-12 20:59:13 UTC from web-
@hakupony They are, however, build in a way that one player can always solve them by themselves as well. (And they're easier)
Sunday, 05-Aug-12 20:59:59 UTC from web-
@omni There are a rare few puzzles that are actually impossible to do solo, but they are always optional when they show up. Any required puzzle is soloable.
Sunday, 05-Aug-12 21:02:29 UTC from web-
@toksyuryel Are those puzzles the ones behind those 3-energy gates?
Sunday, 05-Aug-12 21:03:26 UTC from web-
@omni I've never found a puzzle behind one of those gates.
Sunday, 05-Aug-12 21:04:17 UTC from web-
@toksyuryel Okay, then I'm wrong :P

@bitshift So it's basically a 4 player game with a really involved matchmaking screen?
Sunday, 05-Aug-12 20:43:10 UTC from web-
@ceruleanspark That's... actually not a bad way of putting it.
Sunday, 05-Aug-12 20:43:53 UTC from web-
@bitshift @toksyuryel It's funny because I sound critical, but the best MMO experience I ever had was an instanced title.

@ceruleanspark Yeah pretty much.
Sunday, 05-Aug-12 20:44:05 UTC from web -
@ceruleanspark Honestly, I think the "not actually an MMO (except insofar as the energy market/auction)" factor is the main reason I actually like this when so few MMOs have really appealed to me before.
Sunday, 05-Aug-12 20:47:57 UTC from web-
@bitshift I can relate to that. I just think that MMORPGs have a big advantage: I can play with as many friends as I want to. I really would like to keep that and not have to deal with all the random idiots who also are playing.

@ceruleanspark With the exception of the PvP coliseum the maximum party size is 4, and everything is instanced.

@cavatina @toksyuryel I've never played that at all, because I don't have any friends.

@cavatina It's an extremely fun, yet somewhat simple action RPG. Plus, the soundtrack is amazing.
Sunday, 05-Aug-12 20:37:47 UTC from web-
@scribble I'd say the simplicity is deceptive, given the sorts of tactics you need to adopt deeper in.
Sunday, 05-Aug-12 20:39:46 UTC from web-
@toksyuryel @scribble i think he means simple off the bat, which is good. if it was complicated then i wouldnt touch it...considering it involves other people. Sounds like it has a good difficulty curve, and if not that, then it caters to everyone.
Sunday, 05-Aug-12 20:41:05 UTC from web-
@cavatina The energy system is a bit annoying, but kind of stops you getting addicted. xD
Sunday, 05-Aug-12 20:42:30 UTC from web -
@cavatina The difficulty isn't so much a curve as it is a sequence of increasingly steep cliffs with plateaus on top of them.
Sunday, 05-Aug-12 20:43:36 UTC from web-
@toksyuryel That sounds like my kind of difficulty progression~

@toksyuryel At the start though, it does seem pretty simple.

@scribble @omni That sounds...very much my cup of tea XD. Until September, i will just have a Intel GMA Graphics laptop...will i be able to run it at all?
Sunday, 05-Aug-12 20:39:55 UTC from web-
@cavatina Runs fine for me.
Sunday, 05-Aug-12 20:40:30 UTC from web -
@cavatina It doesn't seem to have very heavy system requirements, but you can try it on the website without even installing (or can install it on Steam) so trying can't hurt.
Sunday, 05-Aug-12 20:41:08 UTC from web-
@omni @Scribble I'll do that then :3. Somewhat good news, someone sat down with me today and basically helped me build the best system i could for the cheapest cost, i could have it by september :3
Sunday, 05-Aug-12 20:42:33 UTC from web-
@cavatina That's not "somewhat good", that's fantastic!
Sunday, 05-Aug-12 20:43:43 UTC from web -

@cavatina It runs on Windows/MAC/Linux and is a great game to spend a few hours playing with friends, because it promotes teamwork. Besides that, dungeon explorers are just fun. There is a downside though: you an only play a few hours per day without paying, due to the energy system.
