f*** you RDN, why did you direct me to welovefine? My poor wallet *sobs*
Tuesday, 07-Aug-12 09:22:20 UTC from web-
@hakupony I'm anxious about spending money on it as well. :-[ I really shouldn't but I want it so badly now.
Tuesday, 07-Aug-12 09:25:59 UTC from web-
@pony I'll propably buy it next month, for this month, I already have my vacation to pay..

@hakupony I know this feeling. I have this site in my RSS reader and I see a lot of shirts I want but cannot afford. The shipping costs are too damn high.
Tuesday, 07-Aug-12 09:28:44 UTC from Choqok-
@broniebrown Do you know how much the shipping cost to Germany would be?
Tuesday, 07-Aug-12 09:32:08 UTC from web-
@hakupony For 11 T-Shirts about 75€ and about 75€ taxes.
Tuesday, 07-Aug-12 09:38:03 UTC from Choqok-
@broniebrown Dude, I'm starting to HAT living in this country...
Tuesday, 07-Aug-12 09:42:27 UTC from web-
@hakupony whys that?
Tuesday, 07-Aug-12 09:44:23 UTC from web-
@pony Because there is nothing like that in Germany and because our law ensures there never will be. Because our TV stations and shops do not manage to see a great trend like Bronies. This is why we can't have nice things...

@hakupony It is not only pony stuff but also almost everything nerd related. getdigital has a lot of garbage and 3dsupply isn't high quality in regards to the motives on the shirts. But I got some fine-looking shirts from threadless.com. Their shipping costs are reasonable with $6 for 2 shirts.
Tuesday, 07-Aug-12 09:49:56 UTC from Choqok-
@broniebrown I know. I would not be so P***ed off if it was the first time that happened. But I'll give treadless a look. But just out of curiousity: what other nerd related stuff do you like?
Tuesday, 07-Aug-12 09:52:11 UTC from web-
@hakupony Science, gaming, pop culture (but not stupid ones like Simpsons and South Park that you can buy at C&A). If you want to buy at threadless I'm recommending waiting until they are selling a lot of their stuff for $10. Then if you buy 2 shirts you don't have to pay taxes and they only cost 11€ each.

@broniebrown Hehe, seems like we share some common interests :) In what part of Germany do you live if I might ask?
Tuesday, 07-Aug-12 10:01:42 UTC from web-
@hakupony In the east of Lower-Saxony.

@broniebrown @hakupony aw Dx That's rough. I'm surprised there aren't more specialty shops out there.. maybe there's a print-your-own shirt shop out there that would save you money on shipping. http://www.redbubble.com/explore/mlp I'm seriously thinking I'll design my own
Tuesday, 07-Aug-12 09:56:24 UTC from web-
@pony I bet there is, but my problem is that I can't design one myself and that it would be illegal even if I designed itself because we have the stupiest copyright laws of the entire world. I am perfectly sure that I am not exxagerating. It has come to the point that I am pondering about learning Swedish to move to Sweden...
Tuesday, 07-Aug-12 10:00:47 UTC from web -
@pony Redbubble has also the disadvantage that they ship their stuff from the USA. Making own t-shirts in a local t-shirt store could be a solution but it is a problem that you have to find a good one.
Tuesday, 07-Aug-12 10:01:27 UTC from Choqok-
@broniebrown Yeah. one that guarantees quality or has a known good reputation isn't always easy to find. @hakupony There are so many pony artists on DA with great art. I imagine you could persuade one to give you written consent to use their design once for a small price.. would that be legal? Or, could you send an order to a Swedish company and save shipping that way?
Tuesday, 07-Aug-12 10:08:06 UTC from web-
@pony It still would be illegal. Buying in another country may work. France woud be a nice option, it is less then hundret kilometres from where I live...
Tuesday, 07-Aug-12 10:10:37 UTC from web -
@pony That's probably illegal. With written permission, you CAN use an artist's work, but that still wouldn't give you Hasbro's permit.
Tuesday, 07-Aug-12 10:11:24 UTC from web-
@thelastgherkin Although... if the artist hands it over for free and no-one makes a profit...
Tuesday, 07-Aug-12 10:12:55 UTC from web -
@thelastgherkin @hakupony hmm.. so even though it's original artwork, because it has characters that resemble Hasbro's it wouldn't be allowed?
Tuesday, 07-Aug-12 10:17:43 UTC from web-
@pony Original characters would be okay, but none of the show.
Tuesday, 07-Aug-12 10:18:31 UTC from web -
@pony It's kind of a really grey area that, if taken to court, is settled on a case-by-case basis, so there's no consensus. On the one hand, it's largely illegal to make money from someone's characters, but on the other hand, small runs of prints aren't going to affect the licensor's profits in any meaningful way.

@broniebrown I just stumpled on this report you might be interested about :)
Tuesday, 07-Aug-12 09:38:00 UTC from web-
@hakupony Which report?
Tuesday, 07-Aug-12 09:38:45 UTC from Choqok-
@broniebrown http://goodweatherproductions.de/PONIES/Bronyreport.pdf Sorry, I forgot the link. It is about Bronies in Germany. While it is no good scientific work, it contains some interesting information.
Tuesday, 07-Aug-12 09:40:40 UTC from web-
@hakupony No new information to me.

@widget I think the shipping would cost a lot still for Germany, but yeah. I like that about dA
Tuesday, 07-Aug-12 10:11:23 UTC from web -
@widget But then you're only allowed to sell fan characters that have been written carefully around trademarks, parodies, or completely original works.
Tuesday, 07-Aug-12 10:12:04 UTC from web-
@thelastgherkin And that's how 50 Shades of Grey was made!

@widget My problem is that I have to go to a shop to make somepony make the shirt of a copyrighted character. I'm talking about a country where you can get sued if you play loud music during a social event because of copyrights...
Tuesday, 07-Aug-12 10:17:00 UTC from web -
@widget @hakupony I see. This reminds me of a costume shop from which my mom rented a Barney the dinosaur look-alike costume. Maybe if the art style were sufficiently different you could call it by a different name and say it's original, but otherwise .. meh. I mean.. this character is not strictly done in canon style, and there are many like this artist. http://www.welovefine.com/1401-too-shy.html
Tuesday, 07-Aug-12 10:23:36 UTC from web -
@widget @hakupony @thelastgherkin right. good point. I think it's misinformation and paranoia that might be the biggest challenges to oversome.. not the legality itself. Even in the US I think Redbubble or it's independent artists might be sued for using Hasbro characters, but it's not so strictly enforces here I guess.
Tuesday, 07-Aug-12 10:26:31 UTC from web-
@pony Yeah. I had to really look into it to make sure that folks buying commissions from me was legal.
Tuesday, 07-Aug-12 10:29:52 UTC from web-
@thelastgherkin right. I've done some research myself since I want to sell plushies maybe in the near future.
Tuesday, 07-Aug-12 10:31:28 UTC from web-
@pony This chick got sued for that. http://www.dailydot.com/business/hasbro-my-little-pony-sherry-bourlon/
Tuesday, 07-Aug-12 10:33:34 UTC from web -
@pony Wait, not sued. Just disallowed to advertise via DA.
Tuesday, 07-Aug-12 10:36:02 UTC from web-
@thelastgherkin right! that's exactly what I'd like to avoid.. There are a lot of artists that go unreported even though they use the name of the show and its characters to advertise their stuff. The only way to fight that sort of thing would be to say it's not actually FiM's Applejack or at all related, but good luck with that..
Tuesday, 07-Aug-12 10:41:57 UTC from web-
@pony The other option is to not charge the extortionate prices she does. But then you might get swamped if you work on a commission basis.
Tuesday, 07-Aug-12 10:45:36 UTC from web-
@thelastgherkin oh yeah.. I'm only planning on selling via ebay personally.
