    1. @broniebrown All of my want :D ... It gives me an idea what to do for the next geek-project doh :)

      1. @critialcloudkicker I can imagine myself some interesting projects involving a lot of LEDs.

        1. @broniebrown Hmmyea, probably not LED's for my rainbow project... But I am/was thinking about making a LED-screen of 100 by 100 to make sertain animations outside of my tent next lan-party-camp... Untill I realized it would probably be easier to just take a cheap LCD monitor and stick it to a picket sign with a Raspberry PI stuck to the back or something *shrug*

          1. @critialcloudkicker I wish to have a Rapsberry Pi to make a cheap media center for the living-room but we only have a good tube TV with no HDMI input. I only soft-modded the XBox 1 and installed XBMC. It is a bit annoying that I have to transcode my HD videos to watch them in the living-room.

            1. @broniebrown I bought an old XboX for CHEAP ! but I have to soft-mod it before I can install XBMC. I have to buy a certain game and hotwire a wire so it would accept USB instead of the controller... the problem is... finding time

              1. @critialcloudkicker I softmodded it by making a USB adapter for the controller in order to put the necessary savegames onto the memory card (and to play with it with the PC) and I used Splinter Cell. The adapter is easily made because you only have to match the colors of the wires. But it is harder to find a program that allows you to put data on the memory card. Sadly they are all for Windows. But it works. I installed besides XBMC some emulators for the SNES, NES, Mega Drive and MAME.

                1. @broniebrown Good to know that hotwiring the usb-xbox thing is easy. I was thinking about having to open one up as I played some XboX game so I would not mess up the GRND and +5V wires... I might still have to do that doh

                  1. @critialcloudkicker You can easily take the controller cable and create two adapters: USB->XBox and XBox->USB.

                    1. @broniebrown Still not 100% sure about the colour codings.

                          1. @eaglehooves It is legit. I made this myself (but cleaner with heat-shrink tubes).

Tuesday, 07-Aug-12 21:23:56 UTC from Choqok
                        2. @broniebrown Green to green, red to red, white to white, black to black, yellow to air ?

Tuesday, 07-Aug-12 21:17:54 UTC from web
                          1. @critialcloudkicker The yellow wire from the xbox controller is useless for the adapter.

Tuesday, 07-Aug-12 21:22:34 UTC from Choqok
                            1. @broniebrown Sooo... what does it do ? some sort of radio antenna ? I mean, heck, the XboX controller itself is nothing more than a glorified USB device with a non standard plug on it. So the yellow wire is probably doing something REALLY odd

Tuesday, 07-Aug-12 21:24:54 UTC from web
                              1. @critialcloudkicker I have not really a clue but I think that is for extra devices that you can plug into the controller like the microphone for XBox Live.

Tuesday, 07-Aug-12 21:26:53 UTC from Choqok
                                1. @broniebrown Hmm, can you actually use the +5V and ground on a USB like device for a microphone ? ... inb4 I start thinking about pheriphialception

Tuesday, 07-Aug-12 21:29:21 UTC from web
                                  1. @critialcloudkicker Aaaah... Whatever. Just a speculation.

                                    1. @broniebrown I like technology, but I am not much of an audio freak... I like to know stuff so I will look it up one day :) Thanks for showing me your tinkering doh. Saves me a good 40 minutes of messing around with a multi-meter. Also Your idea of an audio-carrier signal is way better than my radio antenna "wtfisit" idea :)

Tuesday, 07-Aug-12 21:35:36 UTC from web
                                      1. @critialcloudkicker One last thing I just stumbled upon: It can happen that the colours inside of the USB cable and controller cable aren't colored correctly. So you have to identify the correct ones with a multimeter or so. http://is.gd/Xj864n

Tuesday, 07-Aug-12 21:38:21 UTC from Choqok
                                        1. @broniebrown That is the kind of scematic I would have made ... Well with the correct names attached to them... Data+, Data-, GRND, and +5V ... but with that picture it is just a matter of going to wikipedia and ask for a "USB connector, how you work ?" ... thanks a lot :)

Tuesday, 07-Aug-12 21:41:58 UTC from web
                                          1. @critialcloudkicker Oh wait, derp, they are labeled 1 to 4 and the instructions are below the picture :D

                        3. @broniebrown And this works if I open up and strip wires from any usb-extender cord and the xbox wire thingie right ?
