So here's some ideas to freshen up the site. 1) Promote the conversation trees more. Have the option to view the site in a threaded manner, where conversation view is the default and the place can almost be used like a forum. 2) Promote the groups more. You have to really look to find them as it is. They need to be easier to see and more use needs to be made of them. 3) Like we've discussed, more promotion of media. I think widget has a good plan in motion for this.

@redenchilada And I think a big problem is that the huge focus on a public timeline is what gives us the chatroom mentality. Trying to get away from that and promote methods that group conversations together in logical ways can only be a good thing. Heck, making the public timeline _not_ be the first thing you see upon visiting the site might be a good thing. (Or maybe I'm just nuts.)

@redenchilada SN 1.0 also makes personal the default instead of public. But again, upgrading isn't just a "snap your fingers DONE" thing.

@redenchilada Status.net 1.0+ already does #1, by inlining conversations. Problem is, from what I've heard, the 0.9.x->1.x upgrade path is not entirely smooth, and we're already using a modified variant of 0.9.7. :/
