  1. Hiya ponies. Back again. This time for awhile.

Friday, 10-Jun-11 22:41:05 UTC from web
    1. @drewdle Welcome back! How are you doing?

Friday, 10-Jun-11 22:41:41 UTC from web
      1. @miloth # Been a good day.

Friday, 10-Jun-11 22:45:59 UTC from web
        1. @drewdle glad to hear that, and Just being bored having nothing to do, leaving skype open, ya know, the usual.

Friday, 10-Jun-11 22:47:45 UTC from web
          1. @miloth I should totally add ponies to skype. Thanks for reminding me. :)

Friday, 10-Jun-11 22:49:16 UTC from web
            1. @drewdle No problem, ;)

Friday, 10-Jun-11 22:49:43 UTC from web
          2. @miloth You were saying earlier you were having computer lag issues?

Friday, 10-Jun-11 22:51:39 UTC from web
            1. @drewdle Yeah. In fact when I started my computer earlier today my fan failed and I had (my parents) to clean the fan and everything else inside the computer. 1GB of ram isn't much to work with.

Friday, 10-Jun-11 22:53:37 UTC from web
              1. @miloth Ouch, no 1Gb sure isn't much anymore. You're not on Vista/7 are you?

Friday, 10-Jun-11 22:56:48 UTC from web
                1. @drewdle Vista. I don't have any money to get some more ram, and if I did I might get 6 or 8 depending. 4 years old computer you have failed me!

Friday, 10-Jun-11 22:57:46 UTC from web
                  1. @miloth I'm surprised you can do anything with 1Gb of memory and Vista. Vista's memory management is like herding cockroaches. But I understand the position you're in too. If your machine is 4 years old, 4Gb is probably the max.

Friday, 10-Jun-11 22:59:59 UTC from web
                    1. @drewdle Weird how you had to mention cockroaches. I used to eat on my computer desk and my crappy apartment attracts them and they were all over the computer and the desk! And what do you mean by the limit is 4gb?

Friday, 10-Jun-11 23:02:03 UTC from web
                      1. @miloth You said you'd get 6 or 8, and I assumed you meant gigs of memory. Most computers have a physical limit to what they can address. Older machines usually the limit is 4Gb. More if it's a 64bit system.

Friday, 10-Jun-11 23:04:12 UTC from web
                        1. @drewdle Darn shame I got 32bit.

Friday, 10-Jun-11 23:05:39 UTC from web
                        2. @drewdle Actually isn't the practical limit 3.5 GB for a 32-bit OS? IIRC Windows does some stupid things that cuts it down somehow.

Friday, 10-Jun-11 23:08:35 UTC from web
                          1. @starshine You might be right. I know that you have to subtract the video RAM from the 4Gb ceiling, so if you had say 4Gb of memory and a 512Mb graphics card, 3.5Gb would be the absolute max the system would see in 32 bit mode. Probably closer to 3.2Gb after you account for weird Windows things.

Friday, 10-Jun-11 23:12:39 UTC from web
                  2. @miloth You could try going back to XP. And if I was closer I'd fix it for you.

Friday, 10-Jun-11 23:00:59 UTC from web
                    1. @drewdle it came with Vista, I can't revert it back to xp or anything.

Friday, 10-Jun-11 23:02:30 UTC from web
                      1. @miloth Revert it to Win 7 at least.

Friday, 10-Jun-11 23:03:24 UTC from web
                        1. @starshine Win7-Requirement: 2gb ram. Yeah I think it would make the situation even worse if I revert to Win 7.

Friday, 10-Jun-11 23:05:04 UTC from web
                          1. @miloth Actually, you'd be surprised. A lot of netbooks ship with 1Gb of memory and Windows 7 and they run okay. Because Win 7 uses less memory than Vista, you might find it a bit quicker.

Friday, 10-Jun-11 23:06:47 UTC from web
                            1. @drewdle Hmmm, well I don't have 100 dollars to buy Windows 7, and I just checked and it was actually 1 gb.

Friday, 10-Jun-11 23:09:13 UTC from web
                              1. @miloth Got an .edu address? You can get Server 2008 (which is basically Windows 7) from Dreamspark for free, legit.

Friday, 10-Jun-11 23:11:03 UTC from web
                                1. @starshine how is it like win 7? and ew no aero glass interface.

                                2. @starshine I got my 4 Win7 and 3 Win XP licenses for free from MSDNAA.

                                  1. @broniebrown Lucky you. My stupid university doesn't acknowledge that program's existence.

Friday, 10-Jun-11 23:19:47 UTC from web
                              2. @miloth That's fair. Hopefully at some point you manage it though, because I think it will help. I totally empathize on the money thing.

Friday, 10-Jun-11 23:11:20 UTC from web
                                1. @drewdle Yeah, I just keep stressing on money because I don't get an allowance at all and I have to find odd jobs to just barely make money for something I want. I got a huge list to buy stuff like a new Monitor, new fan, new graphics card, and etc.

Friday, 10-Jun-11 23:13:11 UTC from web
              2. @miloth I used to operate on 256MB of RAM. :<

                1. @redenchilada holycrap, I think you deserve a medal for coping with 256MB of RAM.

                2. @redenchilada Nice! XP or something else? My first computer had 32Mb of memory. Yeah Windows 98!
