1. Shards of Equestria Recieves Cease and Desist from Hasbro: It looks like Shards of Equestria has been hit by those crazy lawyers over at Hasbro's legal department. As is the norm, they are required to protect their property by US law, but the specifics of the cease and desist have not yet been released. Keep an eye on the dev blog for information on what exactly is going to go down. I guess we need to build our own c >http://www.equestriadaily.com/2012/08/shards-of-equestria-recieves-cease-and.html http://ur1.ca/a1wsf

    1. @eqdpony That looks like they should be hit by the Magic guys AND Hasbro. Glad hasbro's noticing something.

      1. @abigpony Hasbro owns Wizards of the Coast. I'm pretty confident this is the entire reason they did anything, I don't believe MLP had anything to do with this.

        1. @toksyuryel @omni I'll reach a bit: Hasbro is awfully nice to the fandom in terms of Copyright. and even though I have not really an idea on how US-Copyright works, I'll say: better then ours...

          1. @hakupony They are. They could shut down so many pony-related sites, kill pony-related fan merchandise but they don't. They're really, really being nice to us, and we should be grateful for that and not take it for granted.

          2. @hakupony Well for starters, you have no obligation to pursue infringers if you don't want to. It will not cause you to lose the copyright.

      2. @abigpony The folks at Hasbro that deal with MLP generally seem pretty chill about things that don't directly profit from use of their copyrights - given Wizards of the Coast are a part of Hasbro, I would not bet against this being mostly that part of the company.

          1. @anarchycarcino It is. The tie between the two companies even led into a fun little April Fools' press release back in G3 times: https://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/dd/20060401a

          1. @hakupony This was by design- they created the OGL after all.

      3. @abigpony And for what it's worth, while I think the reaction might be a little extreme, I can totally see why Wizards would have a problem with realistic, but not genuine, cards being out there.

    2. @eqdpony And once again the comments are filled with people who don't understand US copyright law yet feel qualified to pretend they do anyway. #

      1. @toksyuryel I love how they make claims like "companies lose copyright if other people make money on stuff they have copyright on" and "Hasbro is harassing the fandom".
