Another grueling Windows XP installation and update later, I once more don't want to do that ever again.

@jla The worst part is: you'll have to be spending the first week installing updates pretty much every time you shut down the system... It's so awful you can't just update everything at once =/

@omni It takes forever. Especially when you are updating from SP2 like I was.

@jla Oh, tell me about it. At such points, you realize how great "sudo apt-get update" or "sudo pacman -Syu" (or whatever your distribution uses) are :P

@omni Why do you even want to install the upgrades? Install SP3, and disable updates.

@nerthos Because not keeping Windows up-to-date is suicide, only an anti-virus product is not enough. You also need to keep everything up-to-date AND you need luck (about 65%, because there is a 45% chance a virus infection is your fault (thus a 65% chance it's not your fault), according to Microsoft: http://www.darkreading.com/blog/231901796/microsoft-research-shows-malware-infections-mostly-your-fault.html)

@omni No, with WinXP, updating above SP3 is basically self sabotage. It basically ruins the system so you update to Win7. It's not about luck or updates, it's abut knowing what you're doing. I used SP3 for almost a year without antivirus, and nothing happened.

@nerthos Are you, like, absolutely sure there? A Windows PC gets attacked 50 times an hour on average. You either got infected without noticing, or you must be one of the luckiest guys on the whole world. I'm not saying it's completely impossible, it's just very, very, very unlikely.

@omni @nerthos Also, I was not aware SP3 actually wrecks Windows XP completely, but I'm not really surprised there

@omni No, it wasn't because I scanned it after that. And I spent lots of time in 4chan and the like at that time. SP3 doesn't wreck Windows, it just makes it slightly slower, it's only really noticeable in very old builds. The updates AFTER SP3 are the problem. I'm a lucky guy in some areas, I won't deny that. It's probably the karmic balance for my inhability to stand 80% of the people.

@omni Dude... you do know that 45% + 65% = 110%, don't you?

@hakupony And that is why I should go to bed when I'm tired. Sorry about that, I obviously meant 55% instead of 65%.

@omni Okay, I just wondered which of the numbers you got wrong :)
