  1. So I'm not going to insult anyone's taste in laptop hardware behavior. I am, however, going to say that whoever decided that everyone will always love touchpad tap-to-click and that there is no reason whatsoever to include an easy way to disable it should be stripped naked, rolled across a football field of broken glass and rock salt, and then lit on fire.

    1. @scribus Hells, even my ancient laptop has a button right above the touchpad to shut it off.

    2. @scribus I've gotten used to it. That said, it irritates me that a double-tap in the upper-left corner is what disables the touchpad, since I'll tend to tap there a lot by accident.

      1. @redenchilada I hate it, I will never bother to get used to it, and I resent that in Linux of all things the choice is not presented to me. I've tried and it just results in obscene amounts of obscenity from me.

    3. @scribus I much prefer to just disable the pad entirely, though in part that's because this laptop comes with a [s]nipple[/s] trackpoint. (Which is SO GOOD.)

      1. @bitshift Absolutely NOTHING beats a regular mouse though

        1. @redenchilada True, but absolutely nothing practical takes up more room either, and for 90% of stuff, I can quite happily use just the built-in pointing devices.

      2. @bitshift Why did the eraser-tip die out? I liked it so much more than touchpads early on.

        1. @scribus It didn't on thinkpads. Combined with that they're just generally good laptops, it makes them an obvious choice for me. :) (A little expensive, maybe, but that just comes down to picking the right model and customizing away the big money-sinks that're otherwise bundled by default.)

    4. @widget It's not, though.

      1. @scribus If you don't get a graphical option for it, maybe try synclient? (Unless your touchpad isn't synaptics-based, but I don't even know of any that aren't these days except maaaaybe on macbooks.)

        1. @bitshift Synclient worked, not sure if it'll persist beyond a reboot. The first two or three fixes I found involved files I don't even have, the whole thing was just a colossal headache and it really, really should be made easy! I mean, it seems like such a basic option, Linux-philes are always lamenting the "Oh noes we only have like 1% of the user base" and then, what do they do!? OUTRIGHT REFUSE TO DEVELOP USER-FRIENDLY INTERFACES!! I mean, sure, I can handle some CLI, I even like it at times, but . . . it's . . . I mean. . . . AUGH!! D:<

          1. @scribus Yeah, it's bothersome.

    5. @widget Crunchbang, and I've already shut off that computer, I don't need the bucking stress.
