  1. Argh! My tablet died. It doesn't turn on. It struggled in the last few days as it spontaneously turned itself off. It was an Amazon Fire HD 7 (7th gen). I'll probably buy a non-Amazon tablet because sideloading is a pain and I'd like to have more RAM on the device.

    1. @adiwan Aw, sorry man. I would point you to my collection of certified dumpster collected tablets to pick a new one. But there probably isn't anything newer than a Galaxy Tab 3 lite in that pile.

But as far as recomendations go. Samsung S3 - S6 should be an absolutely lovely range of both how expensive and how well the perform. As long as you do not mind buying used and spend the first hour scrubbing bixby off of it.

      1. @drinkingpony I ordered a Samsung Tab A T510N 10.1'' tablet. It has only 2GB RAM but looks decent enough. There are plenty cheaper tablets from manufacturers I don't know but I'm not willing to risk it. Because I'm using my tablet every day when I wake up and go to sleep I don't want to have something janky. So I also don't want to flash a custom ROM that has not all the functionality (i.e. flashing a cheaper Amazon tablet). I could get the cheapest Amazon tablet again but it was not ideal when it comes to sideloading. It worked but they crashed regularly. Also 7'' was too small for me. I could live with that as long as it did but using Youtube (90% what I've used) the buttons were too small. Usually I don't mind buying used electronics but in the case of a full-screen and glued-in battery device I'm super hesitant. I don't want to look at scratches.

        1. @adiwan the 2019 one with only 2 GB. That thing is really nice for its price. Especially if mostly what you'll do is browse PDF's CBR's and YouTube.

          1. @drinkingpony Drat, I saw "2019 with 2GB" and thought you were talking about the new Raspberry Pi 4. I keep debating one, my RPi 3 barely works for TV surfing.

            1. @scribus I was sorta thinking of turning my RPI 3 into a google-less chromecast. No idea if it will work well though. Then I will get a RPI 4.

Though maybe I got my numbers messed up now. Dangit, I will have to go through a drawer of junk to make sure.
