@marshy Oh dear...
-
@omni School computers :L
-
@marshy We use Windows XP on our school computers, together with Internet Explorer 8. The fact that XP doesn't allow "snapping" windows and, well, we have to use Internet Explorer makes it a complete hell, especially during Informatics class. I think I wouldn't mind switching for that Mac...
-
@omni I bring my laptop for the explicit purpose of avoiding touching a school computer at all costs.
-
@omni We've got 7, but we insist on running thin clients off a server, and they're slow as all get out. I bring a laptop and a USB key, and just shuffle documents over when I need to print.
-
@techdisk We're not allowed to connect non-school systems to the school network because our system admin sucks at his job (just like he "protected" the systems against running .exe files but forgot to protect the folder "Temporary Internet Files" so if you choose "run" instead of "save" it just works anyway).
-
@omni I never use the computers here. That's the option I choose. They've gone through destructions of students and they're all old macs. X.x
-
@marshy Hey now, macs are good for something. http://derpy.me/ch4Qj
Scribus likes this. -
@omni our school embraced the wifi. We can connect everything and anything... but I prefer to steal an ethernet cable anyway.
-
@colfax That's adorable. I want an old mac now.
-
@eaglehooves I think our school uses full clients hacked (badly) into thin clients. Its plain horrible.
-
@marshy I want to do that with an old iMac, I think the shape would work better.
-
@colfax I like how the latest comment is an OS war.
-
@colfax Oh man, I would do the hell out of that!
-
@techdisk Lol. I've got a thin client in my room badly hacked into a full client.
-
@colfax D'AWWWWWWWW
-
@colfax That would be awesome .
-
@scribble I would have been surprised if it hadn't happened.
-
@scribble Dude Windows totally makes a better jack-o-lantern than your dumb Mac.
-
@marshy I had one once, was going to make an aquarium out of it, but I had to toss it when we moved. :/
-
@colfax All these ideas are great. I see them a lot at garage sales and stuff. I'm going to get one.
-
@marshy And I mean that literally, it went out a second floor window.
-
@colfax wow why?
-
@marshy Because of space and it would be one less thing to drag along to the new place.
-
@colfax but out the window?
-
@marshy Wouldn't you throw something out the window if you had to get rid of it?
-
@marshy At that point everything was going out the window, it was new years eve and we had to be out by jan. 1st.
-
@colfax Last time we moved, we just left the mess for the landlords to clean. Them people never fixed the problems with the place anyway.
-
@redenchilada I wasn't giving those asshats the satisfaction, we were going to take them to court to get our deposit back.
-
@colfax That must've been exciting then.
-
@redenchilada Sometimes.
-
@colfax Eh, we were gonna call the housing department on them, but mom blew it off and we just decided not to bother or something I guess? The place was seriously a wreck, though; mold in the laundry room that they painted over until the ceiling collapsed and they gave it a halfass fix, leaks all over, mice in the walls... yup.
-
@marshy Never a dull moment here in paradise valley...
-
@redenchilada This wasn't that bad, just the owner's wife was a micro-managing control freak.
-
@colfax The only reason we lived there is because we couldn't go apartment hunting when we lived two hundred miles away. :/
-
@redenchilada My favorite part was when she went on about noise complaints she was getting from our neighbors, one was a long-haul trucker and the other worked three jobs, so neither one was ever home... but they still managed to somehow hear us where ever they were and complain about it.
-
@colfax Well, were you being loud? People tend to get kinda cranky when you're interrupting their only sleep between three jobs :p
-
@colfax But oh god noise complaints at our place. The upstairs neighbor constantly blared their music enough to shake our walls, and the one time we turn ours up we're getting complaints.
-
@redenchilada When I say they were never home, that's not an exaggeration, in all the years we lived there we saw them both exactly four times, the one with three jobs would usually get home after midnight and be gone before sunrise.
-
@redenchilada So unless I was blasting the stereo in my sleep there wasn't anything to hear.
-
@colfax "Blasting music in your sleep" is a common ailment. My mother suffers from it, even.
-
@redenchilada The only way it makes sense is that she wants to get people into the apartments just so she can drive them back out.
