  1. @ceruleanspark Okay. I can wait for Widget. In the meantime, is this the type of service we are looking into...? Because... dem prices... http://nginx.com/support.html

    1. @dlcentaur Nginx is free. That's for actual support from the company or something. Put it this way: The current server we're on only costs us the price of the server itself. Everything else is basically free.

      1. @minti Aha. That's good. How can I use it, then? Like, where do I have to go to actually get it and set it up? o_o

        1. @dlcentaur On the server you just run the command "sudo apt-get install nginx", and done. :p

          1. @minti Huh. That's a heck of a lot more simple than I thought. xD

            1. @dlcentaur Having a decent server to run the command on is the hardest part.

              1. @eaglehooves @minti Woah... so now the issue is finding a good server. The levels of importance for this server are in this order # Must allow us to run smoothly, and provide an ample amount of room for growth. # Should be somewhat inexpensive (though Pricing isn't the main issue at all)

            2. @dlcentaur Yep, linux has a nice thing called a package manager. Basically you can install almost any program using a single command xD And all of them are free.

            3. @dlcentaur So the main thing right now is getting a server to host everything on, and getting a domain to point at the server. ;p Everything after that is honestly just finding a sysadmin to set everything up.

Friday, 12-Oct-12 20:18:42 UTC from web
              1. @minti That's another issue... finding a reliable, available, knowledgable sysadmin. I mean, I could set it up if you guys run me through how to do it... but I don't actually know how to do anything, should a problem arise.

                1. @dlcentaur No one on RP uses Linux at all? It's not very hard to learn if you're tech-savvy. I actually learned most of what I know about sysadmining this year xD

                  1. @minti Well, Honeywing is Technically knowledgable and trustworthy. The problem with him is his availability.

                    1. @dlcentaur It'll be the same with every sysadmin. It's something they do on their free time, not as a job. xP I'd honestly offer to do it for you, but I have a track record of being unreliable xD

                      1. @minti Oh, come now. I can't believe that you're as unreliable as all that. You've been a great help to this site, and I've never seen you abandon your posts or duties. xP

                        1. @dlcentaur Hey, the track record doesn't lie. :p I speak only of the truth. xD

                          1. @minti I suppose I'll just have to ask Widget and Cerulean, and see what they say.~

                        2. @dlcentaur No, he's telling the truth, the only reason he even does anything around here is because of the shock collar.

                            1. @minti No, but I did give the remote to a two year old to play with.

                            1. @bitshift They have to be custom made, you just get the ones meant for dogs and set them up to work off a remote trigger.

                    1. @dlcentaur Much like @eaglehooves and @minti, I'll definitely be around at some points if you need to ask something in an emergency, but I'm not likely to be able to help on a regular basis. (And even if I were available, I'm not good enough to actually get StatusNet running properly.)
