@purplephish20 @widget I really have to disagree with that way of thinking. I think that such a requirement was created (in part) because of society's rules back then. Having a woman teach a group of men back then was nearly unspeakable.

@dlcentaur But 15 minutes ago, the higher ranking religious officials in the UK just voted against women bishops, against the wishes of the current archbishop and his to-be successor and an overwhelming majority of the constituency

@dlcentaur Actually it was always like that. Most religions are pretty lax these days. But people want to force institutions that have hundreds or thousands of years to change at the same rate society does, and that's just not going to happen. You can't bend rubber and wood at the same speed.

@purplephish20 That's overreacting. I'd totally agree with you if it affected people in general, but it affects ONLY the clerics of that particular religion. They don't bother anyone else.

@scribus I've hated religion for years, it just makes me rage a little more whenever something stupid like this happens, like the fact that uganda is about to pass the "kill the gays" bill, on the grounds that it is "unacceptable in the world of christ"

@widget That's exactly what I'm saying. It's not compatible with the beliefs of that religion, and the religion is in it's right of believing whatever they please. So they should just mak their own branch with slightly modified views on the issue, and leave the ones who don't want the change to carry on with their already established lifes.
