@pony heyya. So, cousin got prescribed antidepressants. What if I took some from him? They also help with anxiety as well as depression. Good idea or bad?
-
@renovatedkitchen Bad. You need at least 14 to get the effect, and after that period, you will have become addicted to them.
Tuesday, 18-Dec-12 07:04:29 UTC from web-
@ceruleanspark darn. So even if I could score a bunch, the addiction would take over. So much for that
-
-
@renovatedkitchen Ya never know until you try. I'd only recommend it if you're pretty self aware and can detect how it affects you. Of course your cousin would then be left with less medicine for himself so that's kind of a hitch right there.. plus what Cerulean said.
Tuesday, 18-Dec-12 07:05:43 UTC from web-
@pony well, he would "loose" them and get more. I am self aware, but sometimes can be stuck on one track and avoid everything (if you know what I mean) which is a bad thing. Guess I'll stick it out
-
@renovatedkitchen My pharmacist won't refill me prescription if I lose mine. Canucks are much looser with their meds though I guess, judging from all the spam I get in my email.
Tuesday, 18-Dec-12 07:11:19 UTC from web-
@pony most of it is free here. Plus, my cousin works at a pharmacy
-
@renovatedkitchen yeah but they must keep track of it still. If your cousin is a pharmacist that's cool though, as long as he wouldn't get in trouble, but secretly sharing meds in the US is a way to do just that.

@pony ill have to go against it for now. Because of what cerulean said. Sometimes he takes some Tylenol 4's or whatever those strong ones are. They sometimes come miscounted from the factory. They should make something that gets rid of anxiety quickly. Like you get anxiety, take this pill, couple seconds later you're fine
-
@renovatedkitchen my friend is on stuff like that as needed. it's a type of tranquilizer.. not good for operating heavy machinery though. xP
Tuesday, 18-Dec-12 07:19:22 UTC from web-
@pony Is it pill form? Not over the counter, is it?
-
@renovatedkitchen pill form yeah, but prescription.
Tuesday, 18-Dec-12 07:22:04 UTC from web-
@pony was it hard to get?
-
@renovatedkitchen Celexa or the off brand equivalent was easy for me to get. it was the second thing my doctor prescribed after the first thing wasn't enough (was only for depression). As for the tranquilizers, I'm not sure. I think those are more closely controlled at least in the US.
Tuesday, 18-Dec-12 07:26:27 UTC from web-
@pony are there any bad side effects? Any chance those I could get over the counter from my cousin?
-
@renovatedkitchen Celexa treats anxiety and depression. Side effects can include sleepiness (recommended to take before bed), and decreased sex drive. You can find lots of info about it online. It's relatively good as far as side-effects go anyway.
Tuesday, 18-Dec-12 07:31:40 UTC from web-
@pony what is a sex drive? xD ill look into it. Hopefully it's something easy and good

@renovatedkitchen one of the side effects of being on the wrong type or dosage of SSRI antidepressants is an increased likelihood of suicidal thoughts or behaviours. Reading the little leaflet that came with mine, you can also have: lethargy, dizziness, drowsiness, weight gain, headaches, shakiness, nausea and vomiting, diarrhoea, rashes, joint pain, swelling, vivid dreams, confusion, increased anxiety and sleeping problems. You may also encounter abnormal burning sensations in your skin, restless legs, blackouts, numbness, low blood pressure, night terrors, agitation and hallucinations.

@ceruleanspark @renovatedkitchen oh yeah, also, it can make it harder to sleep. I've experienced this, but it's not so bad as long as I practice breath relaxation exercises.. and I've gained like 10 pounds I think, but that's probably just my metabolism slowing down because I'm 30. My dreams cid seem to get a bit more vivid too. I was prone to suicidal thoughts when I took other meds, but Celexa hasn't caused that in me as far as I've been able to notice.

@pony its definitely tempting. Would save me lots of time too, rather than having to recover from anxiety for hours sometimes
-
-
@ceruleanspark I was just reading that too on the Web. Says people with mood swings, bipolar or mania should be monitored closely. Think if I can get this OTC I should try it? In a way though, if I do, it's like I'm weak and can't stand for things by myself though.
-
@renovatedkitchen I felt that way too, but I decided to screw my pride because I was sick of being held back by how I felt.
Tuesday, 18-Dec-12 07:44:53 UTC from web-
@pony I feel like it's almost like I've given in rather than pulling through. Pride, and the knowledge that I can do what I want with out help
-
@renovatedkitchen I feel as though I /can/ do things without the extra help, but I'll be in pain. I've learned how to deal with that pain or I wouldn't be able to move forward, but it did slow me down still. It just makes the pain bearable, etc.
Tuesday, 18-Dec-12 07:50:48 UTC from web-
@pony I suppose. I'm still one of those people that loves pride. If i did settle for meds, it might depress me further because I will bother myself, telling myself I'm weak and useless
-
@renovatedkitchen If you're an elitist then you'll constantly compare yourself to others. I used to be that way subconsciously, but as I worked more with disabled people I realized that achievements and excelling are society's values, not mine. If I were as disabled as the people I help, I'd be happy just to be a positive influence in whatever way I could. There was a 39 year old woman I took care of (with the mind of a 5 year old) who I saw take happiness from her daily work hanging up clothes at a store. She had friends and enjoyed shopping at dollar stores and eating out once per week, and, as long as her staff cared for her, she was happy. I figure I can try to find happiness in satisfying standards set by society which, while good, may be quite difficult or impossible for me to reach, or I can count myself lucky for what I already have, pride, fame, and fortune be damned.. now I'm rambling and off topic, but hopefully I make sense.

@pony got kinda foggy to understand near the end. That is a very nice thing you do though. I wouldn't say I compare myself to everyone, but I do try to do most things I do for everyone to make them happy/impress them rather than to make myself happy

@renovatedkitchen I don't know if you can get antidepressants over the counter because of the "increased suicide risk" thing. They tend to want a doctor involved to keep an eye on things. My girlfriend is on a different medication solely for recovering from anxiety attacks. She just takes one when it happens. They're not addictive and I think less overall harmful than the full antidepressant suite. I can find out what it is if you want? Taking meds to deal with a problem you have is no more weak than a paraplegic using a wheelchair to get around, meds are just a different type of tool.
Tuesday, 18-Dec-12 07:48:17 UTC from web-
@ceruleanspark sure, that would be great. I feel more anxiety rolling in now to, so I will try to sleep before it hits. Hopefully. Have work in 9 hours or so. That does make sense, but if you needed a wheelchair, but somehow managed to get around without one, wouldn't you feel much more empowered? The depression I can deal with. Being friendly here again, because the return of kind words is like a baffle for controlling the negative ones that are on repeat inside. But, being too kind is something that also makes things worse, so it's a trade off.
-
@renovatedkitchen I thought the depression wasn't so bad either, but as it got treated I was amazed at how much better I felt. Good luck in any case.

@pony I known what you mean, I get pockets of clear thinking and actual happiness that are super relieving and amazing. Like my performance is much better as well. It's a tough call

@pony spent the last 3 hours recovering from an anxiety attack. Finally almost fully calmed down
-
-
@renovatedkitchen it really knocks her out though.. she's been in bad situations because of it. I personally experience general anxiety that does better when lowered consistently over time so I prefer Celexa.
Tuesday, 18-Dec-12 07:23:55 UTC from web-
@pony celexa is what you take? Yeah, her meds would kinda set me back
-
@renovatedkitchen maybe celexa is available OTC. no clue (site not neccessarily legit) http://www.cs-33drugs.com/otc-celexa-buy-over-the-counter.html
