why do i even need to install game data to play a game on console?
Wednesday, 19-Dec-12 15:46:41 UTC from web-
@mushi because consoles nowadays want to be PCs

@pony you've fail'd me, PS3

@mushi Because the scope of modern games requires that a lot of the data on the disk be stored highly compressed, and doing on the fly expansion of the compressed data would make load times unacceptably long or frequent.

@ceruleanspark @omni Why don't console gamers just switch to PCs?
Wednesday, 19-Dec-12 15:50:45 UTC from web-
@pony because many games are not avaliabe for computers
Wednesday, 19-Dec-12 15:51:24 UTC from web-
@mushi emulators work alright usually I'm guessing.

@pony i cant emulate game cube games, who'd say a ps3 game

@mushi http://dolphin-emulator.com/ is for GC. I'm guessing if there's not one already a decent PS3 emulator should come out soon.;

@pony soon, why waiting to maybe play a game someday when i can simplyu play it now?
Wednesday, 19-Dec-12 15:56:33 UTC from web-
@mushi I guess hardcore gamers would find it quite appealing to have and play the lastest and best games. I've never been into that. The only new games I've been interested in for the last 10 years have been Pokemon Black and White

@mushi looks like there are already emulators for PS3 for Windows, but it could be a little while before they work as fast as an actual PS3 http://www.emucr.com/2012/06/rpcs3-svn-r42.html

@pony as i said, i cant run game cube games. there is no way i can run a ps3 game before i have alsmost 4000 to spare for a gaming computer
Wednesday, 19-Dec-12 16:02:50 UTC from web-
@mushi oh I gotcha. yeah. iit takes a pretty powerful computer to run those I suppose.
Wednesday, 19-Dec-12 16:03:48 UTC from web-
@pony You need to run the game, which is made for another Operating System (and because you don't have the source code but only a compiler, you'll need to use JIT (Just-In-Time) something like WINE does) on top of a complete operating system. You probably knew this, but I felt like explaining that, just in case you would be wondering :P

@pony also, a gaming computer is more expensive the the 3 consoles of a generation, and need continuous upgrades. so there is no way i chage for computer

@pony Consoles are pretty much just pre-installed PCs with a specialized OS. There is one clear advantage to consoles, though: If you buy a game for a certain console, you don't have to check your specs, you can assume it will just work fine.
Wednesday, 19-Dec-12 15:51:50 UTC from web-
@omni that is one advantage I guess. totally not worth it to me still but *shrug*
Wednesday, 19-Dec-12 15:53:07 UTC from web-
@pony It's not worth the disadvantages to me as well, but yeah :P

@mushi Because games don't play well without textures, models and maps
Wednesday, 19-Dec-12 15:48:55 UTC from web-
@omni but that is the first time i have to wait for it on a game...

@omni For reference, see that wireframe spaceship game on the Virtual Boy. (Red Alarm, was it?)
