    1. @kamikaze I have literally never wondered that.

      1. @thelastgherkin Does that mean you have a convincing theory that explains why?

        1. @kamikaze Naw, it means I don't care.

    2. @kamikaze I'm guessing because background characters aren't really supposed to draw attention that way. Too bad really.

      1. @pony There are plenty of opportunities to make music in the background, in Equestria. #

        1. @kamikaze true. Though usually background ponies that make music don't overlap with other background ponies. I mean, the practical answer seems to be that the animators just never thought to animate Lyra that way while they had other background ponies that were animated that way.

          1. @pony We don't see many music-playing background ponies sitting or walking around do we? Now I'm curious

        2. @kamikaze a more fun answer could be that Lyra is shy about playing publicly, that her talent is not in high demand in Ponyville, or that her talent isn't actually playing, but creating stringed instruments.

          1. @pony Or maybe the lyre is a metaphor for a more abstract special talent. #
